Mako

I've seen it pronounced long a or ae, so I'm a little confused  :-\ Any help would be great.

Sanmäkx

Like the a in cat, fat, flat, sat, bat, rat.

Mako

Fair enough, but I quote: "virä ['vi.ɾæ] v. Spread,proliferate" (http://www.learnnavi.org/navi-vocabulary/)

Note the æ for the pronunciation of ä...

SanguineEpitaph

æ is the letter in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) that makes the "cat" noise...if that's what you meant.

Kuarŏ na nama tanayi cawŏŏt, kuo nim zaosmaŏt.
"Out of what crypt they crawl, I cannot tell."

Like, when you touch something hot you go AH, sort of like that, but without shouting ^^

Mako

So my interpretation of æ has been wrong up to this point. Alright. Irayo ma smuktu. Karma for all of you.

so then what about the regular a, im always getting confused between them, a and ä

Ateyo te Kellett

we have Ä in the swedish alphabet, but I don't really know if it is the same pronunciation since not all languages pronounce it the same.

anyhow, the Ä comes second last in the alphabet between the letter Å and Ö.

the Ä is pronounced as [æ]. it's kind of hard to find a word in english which has the pronounciation. but the word Cat is kind of close

A = sort of like, arr sound

ä is sort of a quick Ah sound.

zantas

Ä is pronounced the same way in Na'Vi as in Swedish so if you can't get it to work, maybe check out a few swedish words
and see if you can get an audio for it.

anyhow the closest word in English must be cat as written in the thread, but
a little bit slower pronouncement of it.

:) I'm just a beginner at Na'Vi started today and
immediately  checked up all the tricky pronouncements
like double rr and ä, but as a Swedish speaker it's extremly easy to say these
letters.

A, no, that's too far back. a doesn't occur much in English (if at all) but should be a lax form of ä).

If you speak any Spanish, it should be the as in casa.

ä shouldn't be a long vowel but otherwise, yes. ä should = cat not caaaat (with a long a (but still the same vowel sound, just longer duration)).

Hmm, hold on here, not all regional accents have that "a" sound you describe.

Take the word bath, some will say barth, others will say ba'th.

You could go watch the movie again see if you can pick them out of the Na'vi dialogue.
