Hi, I've just started learning na'vi and have a question about the pronunciation of the letter 'o'. In the excellent youtube pronunciation series from Ftiafpi, ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Xo-x55n1x8g#t=157s ) he pronounces the letter with a 'w' ending, making it sound more like a diphthong. Reading the pronunciation guide on the learnnavi.org website, it says it is a back vowel, which I thought didn't include the trailing 'w' afterwards (like the Spanish o perhaps).

Later on, listening to the texts he reads, it sometimes sounds like he uses the short method if the o appears in the middle of the word, and the long method if the word ends in o.

Can someone clear this up for me?

Thanks.

He probably made mistakes in there, that video has some age. It's a good start though.

Anyway, o is NOT a diphthong, but it is the

Close-mid back rounded vowel [o] (More info)

Thanks, it's just like in Finnish then. I'm quite lucky because most of the pronunciations are the same as in Finnish :P
