you don't think building a pungee-pit or dead fall is going to get your hands dirty? Tribal peoples do way more trapping than hunting it's more reliable uses less resources, and requires less craftsmanship (building bow and arrows). I love hunting too but we can't do nothing but hunt and expect to subside on that alone.

I don't appreciate the conservaqtive comment from before. That was uncalled for and not for this topic. Guns are good for protection and hunting. I don't think we would attract much attention when hunting in a forest as long as we follow rules and guidlines for hunting in the certain country we are in. Besides, we would probably not be bringing pistols to hunt. More like bolt action rifles for longer distances. They would be great for large game that may be harder to take down with arrows. Plus it would serve as a warning. What if a bear happend into the camp and someone with a gun spots it? The gun goes off alerting everyone around there is something going on. Instant warning alert.

I do understand your point, but I think there are other ways the same situation could be handled.

I'm not sure on how I feel about guns for hunting just yet but I do think we should have a few just in case of animal attacks depending on where the tribe will be located. aka "lions and tigers and bears, oh my". I'd feel safer shooting a gun at a tiger than shooting arrows.

Guns are a creation of the world we are trying to escape and an especially superfluous creation. They were made first to kill people so that should say something.

Actually no one really knows for sure if this is true, the only thing know for sure is that the first guns were basically bamboo, gunpowder and rocks. There is no way to tell what their original purpose was unless we invent a time machine.

Guns, like all forms of tech, have both positives and negatives.

Which is why there will forever be a gun debate in the world.

I think the best application for a gun was stated in th U.S Constitution ans the right to bear arms. People think it's for the right to hunt, but it's really the allowing of the people to protect against a rogue state including their own. So protection seems to be really high up on the list of pro's for a gun.

In an isolated area protection from other humans shouldn't be a problem and as for protection against animals there are plenty of things that work as well as guns. To my mind bringing guns is one of the worst things we could do for the tribe, isn't the society of the gun what we are trying to leave behind?

No. We are not the society of a gun. We are a society of democracy and technology. Sometimes those grind. That is where the gun comes in. Otherwise, it's not like we are bringing gang bangers and hitmen to the tribe are we?

i don't want a gun near me. Not because i fear them but (i use guns a lot) but because they represent the world we are escaping. It's not the implications of weapons it's that it is modern technology and i don't want to see it anymore.

I don't want a fight but certainly America is quite widely known as "the land of the gun" and in all countries there are forms of gun control and restrictions and then there's the problem of storage and ammunition and it seems like FAR too much trouble for a crude and ugly method of defence and hunting. That's just my view and i don't want a fight with one of ma aysmukan

Good points are being brought to the table from both sides. I don't see this turning into an argument... yet at least.

I might as well give up. It's nine to three on the vote. So far. Can I at least bring my own, as long as I lock it up where it wouldn't be openly displayed, but would still be there as a precaution?

If you took responsibility for that and used it for defence and not hunting that seems fine   ;)
