It's not so much the sharing of resources, more the obtaining of them which causes problems with large numbers.

I agree.

Also I was playing civ 4 last night and I saw the civics map and I thought it would be interesting to vote on which ones people want

I personaly would like the tribe to follow these civics

Government: universal suffrage
Legal: free speech
Labor: Tribleism or Emancipation (mixed ideas most likely
Economy : Enviormentilism or decentrilization
Religion: free religion

If you wish to know what they mean by any of those terms in the game descripion or in the context tell me

We had no real communism on earth yet.
The ideals of communism have not been realized in the states that claimed to be communist. Mainly communism should include the government of the people (as in "peoples republic..."), but in these states it did not.
The Na'Vi and one other major fictional society, the Federation of Planets from Star Trek NG, share a lot of the ideals of Marxism. Remember that people in Star Trek do not have money, people get their jobs because they are qualified and like them and you could go to a replicator and get free food ? Some people I know call it "space communism" and it is an interesting futuristic vision. Our current state in that universe is "The Ferengi" :shudder:
The Na'Vi as many other old tribes have similar structures. So why does it fail with people coming from our society? It's because "our cup is already full" - we think, a society will not work without money, people would take as much as they can get and stash it rather than take only as much as they need. And probably this is true for many of those who are brought up to be that way (all of us). This is why it is hard (and often fails) for Westerners to live in a commune (e.g. hippie commune or shared appartments) while on the other hand monestaries and tribes work very well with that principle. I think in forming a new tribe, this will be a major challenge!

Greetings, Aurora
I will just give some advice here and not participate in polls as I am involved with development of a sister clan of this one here which was founded independently. I believe however, we are one clan and we should stick together!

An interesting difference between "modern" communism attempts and the sort of communism experienced by the Hadza is the difference in what people want. 20th century people wanted lots of goods to increase their standard of life, nothing wrong with that, but there were of course people needed to make these things (and for very little money...).
For the Hadza, these things they want include food, water and shelter. Most of the people in the tribe can make these things themselves.

As for a system of government:

We would need to at least pretend to the local government that we had some sort of system which would prevent mass murder...
;D

A problem with communism as it was tried was, that people came from a capitalist, stuff-based society to begin with. And according to the original theory on communism, that system has to fail completely and utterly before communism can be successful. Imposing it by a "revolution" could never lead to a success, as people stick to the old values (as they have not really failed) and always wonder if the political change was the right choice. If the worlds economy utterly collapses (and I mean utterly and completely), people would think that this system was flawed and may adopt a different system, but obviously this is not something to wish for. On a small scale, such a "revolution" can surely be made if the members of that group all already think on a personal level that the old system has failed.

EDIT:
I just watched that documentary and it was really nice. It had not much of the social structure you mentioned in it, so I guess that was more in the predecessor of this movie? But three things really struck me - The feeling of "beeing at home" was what I really felt also when I went to Africa for 6 weeks. The women giving birth in a tree was seriously bringing tears to my eyes. And seeing Ray in pain over his departure again reminded me on me leaving the remote farm in Africa I was living on for most part of my time there. I'd like to see more of the Hadza.
