I have not been on the board in a while and I regret it. A lot has been going on in my life but it's still no excuse. However, I am back and still want to work and develop the tribe. Some of you may have seen my blog on hunting. I haven't been able to post much since it isn't hunting season. However some new developments have helped me see. Only a few days ago I went to my local renfair and I purchaised a long bow, quiver and arrows. I got to tell you, it's pretty cool. I have been practicing with them every day on a stationary target, and will soon be working on moving targets. If anyone wants to eventualy hunt, I would strongly suggest buying a bow, and practicing. Getting good enough to get a one shot kill is going to take a lot of work. So buy (or make) a bow and get out there and practice. I have been doing archery for years and I'm not sure if I could kill a deer. Anyway, if interested in learning how to shoot if you have limited knowlage, just pm me. So get out there and shoot aysmuk!
Join the real life Na'vi tribe here  (And yes, it will be a real tribe in the real world, NOT a role play tribe!)

Good to hear that you're back in the tribe. I encourage you to help out with our location research as much as possible, even if you don't have much to contribute it still helps to be involved in discussions, it's your tribe as well so you can make sure you have your vote and your impact on what we're doing.

As for the archery, I'm renting a recurve for a few months then should be getting a longbow. Unfortunately bow hunting is illegal in the UK ::), I can see that being an issue later on.  Good luck starting on moving targets, I'm certainly not there yet.

I do love archery.  I took classes on it in College and eventually ended up buying my own Competition-quality fiberglass recurve second-hand.  I eventually want to move up to a natural longbow, especially since I'm apparently more accurate with the longbow, but for the time being, it's good enough.  I'm not going into hunting anyway.  Don't mind eating meat, but can't stand the thought of snuffing the poor things myself.  :P

I really do recommend archery for anyone who's interested in it, though.  It's just wonderfully fun when you give yourself a chance to try it.  I bought a Samick Lavita, one of their older recurve bows.  65" with a 30lb draw weight and a black alluminum handle with replaceable fiberglass limbs.  They're extremely handy in that if you break a limb or develop enough that you need to eventually get a heavier draw weight, you can simply buy new limbs instead of buying an entirely new bow.  Most of them aren't traditional, but they're really nice.

They do have a number of traditional bows, too, including longbows.  I've got my eyes out for a traditional wooden longbow with a leather handle I saw years ago, I think the name was the "Viper," but I can't remember.  I'm still looking.  :P

I haven't had much of a chance to practice the last few years.  I've never gotten to set up a target for myself.  I plan to get some hay bales and targets once we get settled into a house with some land, though, so I can play.  :>  I just have a strange love for archery.  It makes me feel so good to get out there, pull back the strings, and let the arrows fly!  It's actually kind of Zen, too, because you have to concentrate and focus.  Though I'm sure when you're hunting, it's a little more stressful.  Knowing your next meals depend on your aim probably makes it a bit more worrisome.  :P

Sorry...I guess I rambled.  >_>  I just don't often get a chance to gush over archery like this.  hahaha

Aaaand now I'm reminded that I never did get a chance to get an arm guard.  OnO  I wonder if it would be possible to make one myself.  o___o

ETA:  Oh Snap!  I found the bow I'd been wanting again!  :D  [/nerdgasm]  Really really, shutting up, now.  hahaha

Well, it's good to see that people are coming back... it was looking like this was a dead project. :)
But yeah, I'm seeing a lot in this tribe. I have high hopes for it. Welcome back! :D

Yeah, it has been looking up lately. Numbers are still fluctuating but I'd say we are tending towards more progress as of late.

And Tsteuitan, love that bow  ;D.

Yeah. Although from what I'm seeing... progress is still extremely sluggish. Though it's more than when I joined, and I figure we still have what? 4 years of progress left?

I think we can say with absolute certainty that the tribe will indeed be established in 4 years time.

"I think we can say with absolute certainty that the tribe will indeed be established in 4 years time."  ;)

In all seriousness I would say 3-5 years. Largely depends on how long it takes to raise funds or negotiate for the land. We might decide on the location and find adequate land by 2011, fund raise for a year, buy and move in 2012. Or we might find land and spend 4 years negotiating with a national park authority for land rights. I imagine the former is more likely.

I would absolutely love to see it get off the ground, honestly.  I know I'm one of the "unwillingly-skeptics," but it really is something that I have hope in my heart for.  It's been nice to see so many people coming back after numbers were waning lately.  It would be even better if instead of the numbers going up and then down and up and down, if the numbers slowly grew over time.  Perhaps advertising in other places would be a good way to get the word out and get more members.

Predict

I don't think we'll reach stable numbers until we have made more progress, once we have a location that should help growth a lot.
The important thing is that we are getting more and more committed members returning, we have a sort of core membership with many more on the fringe.

Advertising is a very good idea and we will need to, probably quite soon. For the time being it should be very informal, on a one-to-one basis or with people we already know. I think we need to have moved closer to our goal before "going public", we need to be able to weather any "press assault". ;) We shouldn't be a real concern but we are an easy target.
