I second the comment on depression beeing just not a state of mind, but can actually be a condition. You can be in a really happy situation and still be depressed. That said, I still think, such a condition as well as some allergies and other minor things will go away in the long run when living as it is planned by our groups (lots of nature, fresh air, clean water, plenty of activity). In Germany (and probably in other countries as well) it used to be possible to travel to places in nature at the expense of health insurances as it is long known that beeing in nature helps with many conditions. It was sliced to bits lately though, keeping people in hospital beds is cheaper I guess... :(

Personally, my experience with antidepressants was awful. I'll keep my hands off these, but I can't speak for others.

Some conditions however will require medication, but I don't think this should be a problem unless there is a problem with money/health insurance... (e.g. if you live outside the regular economy). In our group, we also have at least 2-3 members with medical conditions - we have not resolved that issue yet, though.

Ya deperetion is not a state of mind or emotion its a chemical problem in peoples brains so yes some people need that medication

I don't think I'll need my anti-depressants when we're out there, but at the moment I do (mostly because I end up not eating properly if I don't). The other medication I take is an inhaler, but I know from experience that it improves enough with frequent excersize that I won't need it.

There are forms of depression that are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. Some of them are a result of our life and lifestyle though (generating that imbalance). Other cases are predetermined from birth and usually that person has suffered from depression all life. In the latter cases, medication is likely to be required. It may be worth a try to get rid of it once lifestyle has changed though. Proper food can also play a role. Eating more Tryptophane/Protein rich foods like meat and nuts increases Serotonine levels which have a positive effect on the mood as well as on sleeping. Certain conditions like fructose intolerance can reduce Tryptophane levels and cause depression.
For me, adding Tryptohane (and in a natural environment eating more food rich in this) helped a ton more than chemical medication, but that is of course only one data point ;)

So basically - there will always be conditions that need medication while some others can possibly be alleviated without that. In any case, medical supply for chronic conditions should be available with ease if there is a plan in place to get medical help in case of emergencies. But I guess you discussed this already here, I do not want to intrude too much (please tell me if I do).

Yeah, I'm an herbalist, and I don't know if there are any others on here but there are herbal  medicines that are way more powerful than modern meds, and some, such as curare, would be extremely useful in hunting(amazonians still use it)
