New board names.

Okay, so since we've gotten our own section on the main forum we actually wound up with a new board of our own called "real life na'vi tribe". The past few days I've been trying to organize old topics into these other boards but it's occasionally hard to decided which forum it should be a part of. What's the difference between ideas/suggestions and official tribe matters? What's the purpose of the real life tribe board at all? And do we really need the archive? Dead topics get buried by new topics so they kinda get "archived" anyways.

So my suggestion is that we ask for new names for some of our boards. I feel it should go like this.

New Comers/Introductions (Read First)

Tribe Discussion

Eco Village Discussion

Off Topic (get to know your fellow tribe members)



What do you all think?

Merge, I can't edit. I think there should be a general tribe board for the suggestions. Because with those boards, where would you discuss member topics related to the members that already exist?

In other words, a board for the actual board suggestions. If we post it in one of the other boards, we would have to manually filter what and where each post is intended to be.

I wouldn't want to separate the tribe and eco village completely . They are quite intrinsically linked and there would be a lot of overlap.

My suggestion would be:
Real Life Tribe (Read first) & Introductions (Stickied important topics, with intros below)

Planning

Research

Off topic

(Archive)

Then make the split between eco village and tribe within Research. Although general discussion is an easy grouping everything also fits under planning, research and off topic, making the split cleans everything up and makes navigation easier. I personally like an archive, for inconclusive threads that may be referenced later but have not yet contributed.

Edit: Esmond, how about keeping the mission, goals, and vision all in with The Newcomers/Welcome section they're the first thing we want people to see.

Yeah I suppose if we locked and stickied them we could leave the rest of the space for intros. =)

I just want to avoid having so many titles people don't know where to post. At the moment I'm jumping across the whole board to find related topics.

With my titles, the top is essentially our welcome page/homepage. Then planning covers most of our discussions (but it's an informative name), off topic is obvious, and having a separate board for research makes it quick to dig up, as opposed to sifting through old posts.

To make it clearer. Planning and Research could cover all the tribe and have two sub boards each "Tribe specific" and "Village Specific" then anything that applies to both goes below, atm this would be almost everything. Similar to our general discussion below the sub forums in the old layout.

Well, that would be the point of the "new comers" forum. All our decisions would be posted there and stickies.

Sounds like a good idea, though I disagree about the archives forum. I still think we should

What do we want to go with?
I think it's important to have Research and Planning separate. Planning is essentially the general discussion board but hopefully the name would encourage a bit more focus. Plus it wouldn't get filled up with off-topic threads. Just "Discussion" tends to get a bit messy.

I think it would be better to replace "Tribe/village Discussion" With planning and Research as in my post above. Then have sub-forums in each for tribe and village specifics (as most topics relate to both). Planning, research, and off-topic cover all tribe activities.

I like your suggestions but personally feel the tribe and village shouldn't be discussed separately. The ideas are one and need eachother for success, and therefore need to be on the same page (IMHO).

Also, I feel we need a forum for decisions already made. Not many actual posts would happen there and it would be a great place for rookies to start reading and introduce themselves.

From the discussions concerning the village and the tribe, 'Itan seems to be right - even in the beginning, the two were planned to exist side-by-side, and now it looks like a good idea to make them grow (planning/info wise) at the same rate.
At the very least, I think we should have (in the Research/Planning board) a stickie thread for each one. Perhaps we could have one of those weekly updates threads!

and i agree in treating the village as a part of the tribe itself while keeping it slightly seperated in terms of planning to avoid confusion
