...when we are blue? ???

If we are going to look like na'vi, I mean

The decision at the start of this was to keep it 'only inspired by Avatar', by which means go only as far as the language.

But hey, if we want to go blue, I'm all in.

Kaltxì, everyone!

Time for the weekly update.

Still making progress on the Hawaiian location, though other locations have been brought up that seem to be even better choices. Weird, isn't it - we only made real location progress with the threat of a final decision! This discussion will ideally be resolved by the end of August.

We also have a little cultural discussion in place! Our topic - just how much like the Na'Vi are we going to be? After all, there are many issues - practically, being bright blue doesn't exactly help with camouflage... and also publicly, for our image to the outside world must appear focused and realistic. Contribute here: http://forum.learnnavi.org/tribe-ideas/our-exact-lifestyle-plan/msg486048/#msg486048

In other news, it will soon be time for exam results here in the UK, and many hopes will be satisfied or dashed against the rocks. Hopefully our glorious idea will not be disrupted too much - let's keep it going!

Eywa ngahu to us all.
Tonbogiri

Sorry for my absence. I just finished moving and it took a while to set up internet. I'm back :)

As far as being blue and dressing like the Na'vi is concerned, it was decided long ago and has been restated in many topics that the Na'vi are only our inspiration and that this project will be bounded in reality. We will not be blue.

Kaltxì, everyone!

Man, a weekly update is hard. Shouldn't be, but it is.

Current topics:

While location has yet again reached a halt (sadly, we keep reaching the stage where we cannot do anything else without literally buying it), a few other discussions have arisen. The "How Na'Vi?" topic is still around (link in last update - "Exact lifestyle plan"), if anyone wants to contribute - but as 'Itan said, this is also pretty much sorted.
Another topic is that of naming. This initiative is called "Project Tribal", for those unaware (shame on you!), but many feel that our tribe, our clan as it were, should have it's own unique name. An exciting tribal sounding name! Anyway, if you have a suggestion, put it here: http://forum.learnnavi.org/real-life-navi-tribe/naming/msg489102/#new

Sadly, that is all for this week. There has been a little bit of a slow down recently, but I am sure that it is just another phase and we will recover by September.

Eywa ngahu to us all,
Tonbogiri

PS. Avid "Tonbo-watchers" may have noticed my own absence from the forums as of recent weeks. This is due to a special thing - I am off to university this year! Sadly, this means that I will have to wait a whole three years before I can go on my year-long Australian wilderness course...still, a degree should help us all out in the long run.

I must actually tell that that location, Mauna Kea
Mauna Kea is actually the highest mountain in the world, because most of the mountain is under water

Mauna Kea in total height is: over 10.000 meter(33.000 ft)

There is a way to turn your skin blue forever.  It's called colloidal silver.  I am NOT in any way advocating its use as it can cause organ damage.

From the photos though, most people seem to turn a dark blue-purple.  Then again there is that family in the Appalachias of Kentucky, USA (the Fugates) who are naturally blue.

Cross them with some folks who have Blaschko's lines and...instant Na'vi (just add water).   ;D

I have tried to configure the cost for each person, If we are going to buy Mauna Kea Ranch at 3,700,000$

well, let says that we will be 1000 people in the tribe

ok divide $3,7 million on 1000

and that will be $3700 on each person

so if we will be 500 people it will be $7400

I have seen on Project Tribal official site, and we are now 17

so for each person will it be $217,647

so let's hope we will be more persons

more persons, then less money is it to pay for each one

Realistically we only have MAYBE 5 or so committed people. Also, we decided a long time ago to cap the tribe somewhere around 50 people because finding land to support more would be next to impossible.

I have sent out a lot of requests to other websites about Avatar

I have sent to tree-of-souls.com and avatarmovieclub.com, and posted to avatar movie club on Facebook

So have I. We do need to recruit people, but right now we're just not going to attract any new members w/o a VERY serious plan.

This seems really far too expensive. Very few of us can have even a quarter of this budget.

So I'd say that we can keep this as a possibility, but find ways or other possibilities that would reduce drasticaly costs, and yet be great places.

I think James Cameron would support it... Given enough justification, of course.

I used to think that too but don't anymore. And we definitely can't make our plan based on what other people may or may not give us.

JC seems like a decent enough person who genuinely cares about the health of the environment. I think that the Tribal Project may be the first step to convincing others to live sustainably.

I agree that he's a good guy who really does care... but to almost everybody on the outside we look like a bunch of crazies. And if JC wants to make a real impact he can't associate with "a bunch of crazies". Unless we had a rock solid plan with no holes he risks losing his credibility by associating with us.

Cameron has made a lot of film. Him having done once Avatar does not mean he is fully an environmentalist, even if he did do a documentary against a dam. Fine, but does not make one person a hero or someone who will invest himself in all the small initiatives that could appear.

Let's make sure our idea and project grows and evolves. And only when it shall be solid and reliable enough, then it is possible to have more 'interested' people. Then it may be possible to have supporters. But certainly not the other way round.

Cost is certainly an issue. But there should be solutions that shall avoid the necessity of asking for help, which is the last thing to do.
