Here it is, and on time! ;D

The title is pretty clear but in case you were wondering I am going to be posting weekly updates summarizing recent activity in the tribe, along with a summary of all progress to date. This should enable everyone to keep up-to-date and will allow people to check in occasionally and contribute immediately, without browsing through hundreds of posts to catch up.

Progress Update 1: 29-08-10
We have begun collaborating with 'The Revolutionists' http://forum.learnnavi.org/official-tribe-matters/collaboration-with-the-revolutionists/. Sharing research and ideas and also sharing their wiki at http://revolutionists.aurora-glacialis.de/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

After proceeding for about a month focusing on a location in the Tropics there has been a change of preference
and we are looking far more towards the sub-tropics, largely because of disease problems. http://forum.learnnavi.org/official-tribe-matters/temporate-rainforest-tropical-and-problems/

The forum is aboout to go through an overhaul. It will be streamlined and brought up to date with what we are working on now, this includes a mission statement, new rules/guidelines, and of course this log.

We are also pleased to welcome back Maweya Hufwe and Esmond!

Progress Up to Now (What has been decided about the Tribe)
Location: Tropical - Subtropical climate (preference for sub.). Forest vegetation. Not Amazon or other super rainforests.
Considering temperate but only as a back up if sub tropics fail.
Tribe: To operate primarily as hunter gatherers, supplemented by small scale farming. Only self produced technology.
Eco Village: Electricity and permanent housing, permanent agriculture. Site for computers and medicine.
Government: Largely egalitarian although there will be one or more 'leaders' to coordinate day-to-day operations.

What's Next
Location: Immigration laws (by country), disease and parasites, Land requirements (game, vegetation, electricity)
Tribe: Finalize suitable technology level.
Eco Village: Decide on necessary technology, choose power generation method, building methods?
Government: Outline government and laws in tribe.

If anyone thinks there is something missing or inaccurate feel free to comment but don't worry about limited detail, this should never be a heavy read. Otherwise try to keep the thread pretty clear.

The bold sections will remain each week so there is a standard format. There isn't a lot of information here but I have only included things we are certain of, misinformation will only be counter-productive.

Edit: Nit-picking done...Key'íl.

Esmond

Ah, would this be kept as a log? (Maybe we lock it so that only you have access to it)

Great. Have a computer class, so I can read. Thanks for the updates.

Predict

Yeah, it's going to be updated weekly. I think I'll leave it open, in case anyone needs to make any corrections.

Definitely need to be sticky-ed.

Txonari

Ah, good! As I was saying in my accidently pointless thread, more organization is what we need! And this will surely get us on track and make things clearer for everyone. Especially those of us who can't spend too much time here, like me.
All I want is a single thing worth fighting for.

Predict

Yes, and if we don't do anything in a week it'll be hard to miss.

Hawnu UnilTxep

I stickied this for you ^^
This is a great idea for a thread, and very streamlined as well!
[I'm catching up on everything so this is awesome... nice not to have to read page after page after page... of threads ^^]

Irayo! I hope you keep this up!

Please PM me if you are still interested in the real Na'vi tribe.

Tsyal Maktoyu

Woohoo, glad this got stickied! This will definitely come in handy. ;D

Thank you Hawnu.

I'll be sure to keep this updated, every week if progress keeps up.

guest2859

Eventually I'll be back on to a computer to update the progress thread I made, but that'll be a while.

Predict

No need. I've got this covered. It's not like we're making massive progress any way.

guest2859

Well, looking at it, my thread could be moved to the archive where it can sit without being used. I looked over it and it's like your thread and Txontaw's thread put together, plus I can't really manage anything, so it's just there now. Aside from that point, I'm trapped trying to figure out my whole college deal, and it's looking like it'll be 2019 at my estimated shot when I'll be able to get in. So, I'm flipping out and seeing what I can to for my career so I can get into the tribe.

Our government and laws have largely been decided and agreed upon. I don't remember the topic but it's around here. I believe we've decided to keep things very simple at least law wise. Basically we decided the only things even worth punishing are crimes worthy of banishment. Petty things such as theft would be resolved between those involved and the punishment would be lost respect from your peers.

Exactly. Anything really severe, banished and turned in to the authorities. Any crime would have to be committed against one of about 20 people you see, work, and live with all day every day, respect would definitely be key.

Eana, the tribe should definitely not stop you working on your career. Even if you're utterly devoted to the idea we need money to get this off the ground so it's a good thing.

Here it is! Now only 12 hours late.

Progress Update 2: 04-09-10 *New Moderators*
This has been a relatively quiet week with most of the work still on improving organisation of the board.
The biggest event has been the selection of a new (much larger) set of moderators, the idea being that there is always a few active at any one time.http://forum.learnnavi.org/meta/moderators/. And the new moderators will be:
  Eana Ikran
  Esmond
  'Eylan Ayikranä
  'Itan Atxur
  Key'íl Nekxetse
  Tonbogiri
  Tsteu'itan

We have also started preliminary discussion on funding, this is one thread that may need some attention in the following week. http://forum.learnnavi.org/official-tribe-matters/funding/

There has also been a bit of a renewed interest in private islands, looks promising and is worth checking out: http://forum.learnnavi.org/official-tribe-matters/finding-our-location-a-different-way-prt-2/120/
Finally, we welcome back Tonbogiri from his brief absence. Who will now be online 24 hours a day in compensation ;).

Progress Up to Now (What has been decided about the Tribe)
Location: Tropical - Subtropical climate (preference for sub.). Forest vegetation. Not Amazon or other super rainforests.
Considering temperate but only as a back up if sub tropics fail. Also some thoughts on private islands.

What's Next
Location: Immigration laws (TOP PRIORITY), disease and parasites, Land requirements (game, vegetation, electricity)
Tribe: Finalize suitable technology level.
Eco Village: Decide on necessary technology, choose power generation method, building methods?
Government: Outline government and laws in tribe.

I've listed research on immigration laws as a priority. Seems like the next big step as it will either drastically narrow our choice or shape how we will operate in the future (the possibility of establishing a charity etc.).

Edit: Nit-picked again.

I am glad you are keeping this up! It will be great later to go back and see how much progress we have made! Also will be great for new recruits. Members.  Whatever *grin*

It's insane how many people have shown interest in this since the beginning. I'd put it at around 75-100 people.

And not to be picky... but I didn't get a welcome back :'[

Fresh meat... fresh ideas... maybe someone with an endless bank account... hum......

It is crazy how much people like the idea and are willing to do the research-- but it saddens me how little people actually stay.
