Sweet. I have a simple monkey bar set in my backyard, which I can use to train for landing properly, as well as getting over my fear of heights.

It's kind of ironic. I love climbing, but I am afraid of heights. Luckily it's not that bad, and with training, it should pretty much go away.

I too have a little fear of height. I don't care about being in a high place and looking down but, if you ask me to jump more than 3 foots, I feel bad about doing it. I think it is because I know that I don't know how to fall correctly yet.

Yeah, it's kind of stupid, if you think about it. I've been working on that. There's a tree in the park that is slanting, so it's really easy to climb up. It's about 5 feet off the ground, and I can't make myself jump off even that height.

I can jump off of about 4 feet, though.

I've read up on sky diving a little since watching Avatar. Apparently, one thing they tell you is that when door opens and it's time to jump you MUST NOT LET YOUR SELF THINK!! Like all those Nike commercials say: Just do it.

I guess it is true but I woudn't skydive without any training of some sort. I think that if you don't know to fall, it's best not to try high first ;)

Fear is a tricky beast to tame. But once you've got it, nothing feels better.

Yeah, it always makes me feel stupid when I fail to jump off a tiny five foot drop out of a tree. I think, "You skxawng! How can't you jump this?"

Lol. You'll get there! Don't rush it. It took me embarassingly long to be able to stay in the same room as a live spider.

Lol, thanks for the support. My family has a strange policy for spiders. We leave them alone unless they get to a specific size. Then we chuck them outside. Our house is like a safe haven for spiders. :P

Damn! I ain't coming near your place! lol

Anyways, back on topic. I finally got a real chance to try some parkour today. Worked out better than I expected! Didn't do anything crazy yet, but today was a real confidence booster.  ;D

What did you do, specifically?

I love parkour, really...but I'm too scared to try something like that... (self preservation maybe??????  :P) And, I wanted to start somewhere but as far as I know the true parkour is not something you learn like...in a "classroom" It's kinda stupid if you do. Anyway...my question is HOW to start?

practice rolling until your perfect at it !!!

cause i just broke my ankle and arm  OW :'(

its hard to explain to the school nurse that you were trying to get up to your lesson by climbing on the rooves because you were late and thought that youd save some time taking a more direct route, before falling off onto concrete and not getting the roll correct

EDIT
well first practise rolling. then tacs then maybe some vaults but go up to heights until your totally sure your doing to be fine up there

practise balance as well its really useful

tip: get the things the you practise perfect, not just until your able to it well. cause then you have a margin for error and its that which causes you to get hurt.

OMG LMAO! I hope I won't destroy myself too much by trying this sport though. It's always nice to have good tips.

With Parkour, as it is with any sport (though Parkour is not really a sport, but a discipline), there are always risks of injury involved.  NEVER take any advise at face value... only YOU know your own limits, and only YOU know when your ready to push PAST those limits.  Train, train, and then train some more, but ALWAYS train safe.  Without safe training, it is self-defeating... if you get injured, you can't train at all.  Start small and work you way up at a level that is comfortable for you.  Vaults, precisions, any landing from a height greater than waist level, ALL of it produces a great amount of shock and stress on the joints, primarily the knees and ankles.  Do exercises that help strengthen these joints.  Barefoot running is excellent for building up ankle strength if done properly (look into Dr. Nicholas Romanov's Pose Method), as well as many other muscles of the legs, hips, and back that we have long forgotten how to use correctly.  I suggest everyone with an interest in proper running technique and/or Parkour have a look at this site: http://runningengineer.com/human-movement/.  Though not a tutorial on Parkour, it gives some good information on movement as it relates to Parkour.

Train hard, train safe.
