Ok, so I was talking to my BF today and he's really worried about me going to live in the tribe.  Mostly because he doesn't want anything bad to happen to me but he said that he would be willing to come too as a sort of 'protector'.

I only plan on living in the tribe for about a month out of each year (job reasons) and so would he.  I know he'll learn to love it like I do but what sort of things can I do to help get him to that point?

Also, he is training to become a firefighter and said that he would help with the tribe because it'll be needed.  He is very adement about cutting trees if we need wood.  What other heavy duty jobs will there be?

He also wanted to make sure that he wouldn't be kicked out of the tribe because he's not there for the AVATAR/Na'vi aspect of it and because he's only there to keep me safe.  Would that be a problem?

Well if you only plan on being there for one month out of the year, I don't think you'll have to do too much to convince him, since it sounds like he wants to go with you no matter what.

Him being a firefighter would also be a plus just for general fire safety. And you don't cut trees for firewood. One, live trees don't burn well, and two, I think most of the tribe will want to keep as many trees as possible. For heavy duty jobs, well, we don't know where we'll be living or what sort of shelter we'll be using, but I imagine he could help with building the shelters, along with everyone else.

And the tribe seems like very inclusive group. As long as he's not harming anyone in the tribe or the environment, I don't think there would be a problem.

It seems as though Menari has covered pretty much everything except for

Please view my post in this thread. I say that this tribe is NOT an Avatar fandom tribe. It was simply sparked by Avatar/Na'vi fandom.

first thing I would say is 'grats on telling your BF (I havent even told my parents) but i would tell him not to be worried because I think after the first few years there will be adequate protection around, also humans are noisy, smelly creatures so no animal in its right mind would come near

Not much, like everyone on here the tribe is a personal choice, so the best thing to do would get him on this board and make him read some of the stuff that we are coming up with, then he can make his own decisions about it.

QuoteAlso, he is training to become a firefighter and said that he would help with the tribe because it'll be needed.  He is very adement about cutting trees if we need wood.  What other heavy duty jobs will there be?
hmmmmmm, that is dependant, were not gonna have gallons of water lying around with a highe pressure hose, and fire (I hope) was going to be kept away from thigns that could burn. And trees will meed to be cut down for parts of the tribe and Eco-village, and as for heavy labour *evil chuckle* there will be a lot

QuoteHe also wanted to make sure that he wouldn't be kicked out of the tribe because he's not there for the AVATAR/Na'vi aspect of it and because he's only there to keep me safe.  Would that be a problem?
No like txontaw said

we are just taking aspects of their culture and added them to ours, we may (as a very long term goal) take the language as well but we are not goning to be painting ourselves blue or try to make tsheylu.

Like we said, it's not an Avatar's Fan tribe, of course we're not going to be blue. We'll just keep the spirit of the Na'vi people ... :)

Anybody who wants to help us realise our goals is more than welcome in my opinion, I don't see why anyone would be complaining about another pair of hands to help out. I think we are going to need one of the mods to start taking action about these off topic comments though... :P

Good to hear ^_^ Kinda feel like I'm pointlessly tacking on a statement now, but we would love to have all of the help we can get! Though, I have to say that we are going to refrain from cutting down a ton trees just for fuel ^_^; Just what I think everyone can agree with- We can do with some other fuel source, or just the wood we can find on the ground, and I think only save cutting down trees for when it is absolutely necessary ^_^

It's a lot better to burn already dead wood, cuz then it's dried out.

Realistically we probably will need to cut down trees to get enough wood (for all purposes, not just fires)

Also as everyone else has said, we're not in this for the Avatar aspect, we're in this for the tribal aspect

I think you'd be surprised just how much you can do with deadfall trees and the occasional sapling. In a little over a decade of camping and hard core primitive skills development I've only taken a grown tree once (for a boat). In that sort of environment they are rather useless actually. It takes way too long for them to dry enough to burn well, and when they are still green it's  harder to split for lumber. They really aren't worth the trouble most of the time.
