I'm deeply disturbed by how many say "no" in that poll... It smacks of intolerance, and is, frankly, to me, scary. What makes anyone's religion more "right" than someone else's?! Nothing. I don't care what you are, just let me be me, is what I say. Freedom to choose, freedom to worship who, what and when we want needs to be a part of the tribe, as well as total respect for one anther's faith, or lack thereof.

Thank you for saying this, I personaly voted for yes, all have truth and I believe that. It is sad that so many people would vote for that as I've just done an interview about the tribe saying how open-minded and tolerant (among other things) of religion we are. I sincerely hope I was not mistaken there. I will give you karma for saying what I was afraid to put so bluntly.

Might as well quote my little proverb as well, seems appropriate:

A student is engaged in his studies, frustrated by his lack of progress, he slams the book down. He enquired of his teacher; "You say there is wisdom in all knowledge and yet there is so much knowledge that I will always be ignorant of, even if I study these books for the rest of my life" The teacher, surprised by the students question, replied "That is true, there will be much that you will never know". Angrily, the student replied; "So then, no-one is truly wise as we are all ignorant?" The teacher, surprised by the stubbornness of his student replied; "How can you be ignorant of this knowledge, if you know that you do not know it"

A very enlightening proverb, fnua. You both honor me overmuch. I merely am speaking my heart and mind. Irayo, ma smukan.

My own motto - "open up your mind. The worst thing that'll happen is you'll grow to be a better person."

I admit I am ignorant of a great many religions, (though I try my best to learn of them) but all seem to me to have some kernel of truth, some commonality, though few wish to see this. As I stated before, saying one faith is superior is as like saying one gender, one race, one species is more superior. As a Buddhist pagan, and a Jedi, I both see and seek balance. Light and dark, male and female, life and death. I see too, the shared truths of faiths, how so many share many features. I am truly saddened at the lack of compassion, the lack of open mindedness revealed by this poll.

Thank you, I share your belief's about different religions and open-mindedness about people's differences. I can only hope that it was very late when those seven people voted no....

Woah! Time out people!!

I am one of those who voted no and I stand by that completely. I am also COMPLETELY open minded to other religions and other peoples right to choose. It is however downright impossible for every religion to be right. There are just SO many contradictions between religions. Somebody... is... wrong.

I mean sreiously, some religions state clearly that there is only one God where others have many. How could both be right?

I agree. I mean, how can two completely different religions that teach completely different and opposite things both be true? Even as a deeply religious person, I see that religion is far from perfect and, as quoted above, someone has to be wrong. There's just so much stuff out there. And just because I vote no does not mean at all that I am intolerant or think myself superior to anyone. Because someone has a different religion than I would by no means cause me to think any less of them or hate them in any way, unless said religion required them to kill me. I'm open-minded, I'm logical, and I'm in no way a radical bible-abusing redneck. But in all practicality, not all religions can logically be true. As logical as regions can be, of course.

Here's to not knowing exactly what you're saying and having fun with it.

Exactly. Of course, I do believe that I am indeed correct but am not arrogent enough to rule out to possibility that I'm incorrect completely. And thus I try to understand why people believe what they believe and don't think less of them when we disagree.

LOL! and before anyone says anything, I am very open-minded.  However I just love bashing religions around like an army of punching bags.  8)

Tsamsiyu Atsteu

Then you are not at all open minded if you bash them. It's also very immature and cold hearted to do so, not to mention disrespectful. You should try actually learning instead of bashing. Also, I view all religions as different paths to the same goal. There is no one *true* religion. We all have a fundamental right to believe whatever we want and no one should be allowed to take that away or to ridicule us for it.

Disgusting.

Very bad idea to lock this topic. Ignoring problems does not make them go away. No-one was saying that all religions carry the ultimate truth, only that they all contain a truth of some kind and that they deserve to be heard and respected . Lets just calm this down a bit. If we can't deal with things like this now, how will we deal with it in the tribe? What we were saying is that we need to view all religions on an equal basis and respect them accordingly, not that they all provide the definitive answer. I just don't like the idea that some people view some religions as being inferior to another. Even if you do not mean this it is implied by saying that not all religions are true, what people will take from that is that you believe your religion to be superior. Before this breaks into all out war, lets just back down a little bit and think about what we are saying.

I believe we can benifit from this topic if we do indeed take a step back. But I've gotta ask: why would you follow your religion if you didn't believe it to be the surperior one?

Because it best matches your beliefs, that is not to say it is superior, simply that it is the best one that works for you. That doesn't mean the other ones are not equal in comparison, no-one can have the same beliefs and no-one should try and change people's beliefs. To sum up, I think religion is about finding the one that best suits your ideals and beliefs, to say one religion is superior to the other is to say what you think and believe is superior. Just my opinion though.

Fair enough, without access to a dictionary, superior = better than the compared thing, this combined with voting no, while it does not make a statement, has implications which are, I believe, what people were worried about. Thank you for clarifying in a statement, makes views easier to understand.
