I'm a bit confused. What's this all about? Is it actually people leaving town and moving onto an island or something? Or is it an internet community of some kind?

as far as I can tell from loosely keeping tabs on this board, these people are serious. but thus far it's all discussion and planning. Personally I would love to see it succeed and make headlines.

AWESOME!!!!!!! But where would it be? Madagaskar?

That's just what all the planning is all about, you can't just claim an island to be yours, you need alot of permissions, and planning.
For starters we need permission from the government.

Right now, it is an internet community, which is intending on reaching real-life goals and changes, those being to move out - for real - to the forest in some place in the world.

Well, as Teyl Maktoyu Ayfìwopxä (I copied that name, NO WAY I'm gonna try spelling that ;D) put it, that's what we are trying to find out. And with the lack of activity over the last "few" months... it's not easy at all.

But the major obstacles are agreeing on location, and funding (getting money). We want to, in a way, break free from the insanity of the modern world but to do that, sadly, we need money, lots of it.

And about the location; you can check my chart to see some of the points we're discussing in location research. http://forum.learnnavi.org/tribe-archive/chart-with-62-countries/

I've been noticing a lack of activity on the whole forum for a while, maybe I should stop posting in just a few places and start going global again. :p

That's a little paradoxal... yet, it sounds like an awesome project!

Which was basically what I was saying, but in vague terms. :P
We want to "break free" from being dependent on money (but that's not nearly all of it, don't get the wrong idea), but to get there, we need money. Yes, paradoxal.

Just like we want to break free from technology, but we must use it (internet for example) to reach our goals.

So true... Say we got there, what would it be like? Would we start from scratch with 100 fat/unexperienced (no offence intended) people, or would we have something to start with? We must have some sort of connection to the rest of the world, right? Or else we could not welcome them every time new people joined in...

I suggest you read the old threads, they are a treasure chamber of information. ;D

this sounds AWESOME!!! I have ALWAYS wanted to live more tribal :)

but I can see this is going to be a long process...
are you going to wear animal skins?
tbh, my main concern is medicine!
I mean, if somebody gets sick, or there's an epidemic, whatcha gonna do? :O

however, the rest of this sounds really cool!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to join it, at least atm :(
but maybe I can visit sometime?

irayo ;)

Well, we don't plan to run around in simple skins like some sort of cave people (do we? ;)), but of course we have to get materials from somewhere, and that include animal skins I would guess. (But we need to learn how to treat skin to make leather - otherwise it will decompose.)
And of course weave fabrics from fibers.

Whether we will ever be completely self-sufficient I don't know, I think some materials we would need to import from the outside world (perhaps trading with some of our own products). And of course, as you say, medicine. It's definitely advisable to get vaccinated against any diseases in the country (like cholera, hepatitis, rabies, typhoid and yellow fever, depending on where we're going), and in case of emergency (serious injury/disease) we MUST have a plan on what to do, how to get the injured person to a hospital (at least some members will have to be good at medicine and I think all of us should know the basics, but for serious things, we need hospitals).

It is a risk, choosing this lifestyle (but you're taking a risk every time you're passing a street with cars, or walking downtown at night), but nothing is more important than a life. (I know some in the early days at least, said that we must "just let nature run its course", but I disagree.)

Ni-awtu

okay cool :)

was just worried when the idea struck me...

this is just so HUGE I can't quite take it all in :O

Tsmuktengan

I wouldn't have said it better than Nimwey. :-)

Ni-awtu

go on then, I'm still interested, I want to get different peoples views :D

merci ;)
