Ugh, I truly hate Webs. It is just so difficult to change anything. Let me see if I can get Synthasite/Yola to work
My uncle's dog came over a little less than one week ago. I stupidly left the computer plug on the floor. That night, his dog chewed it up. So, the next morning, I go looking for the plug and I find a chewed up piece of metal. I sadly cannot purchase a new plug right now, and my computer's battery is out. I'm at my public library.

Also, I discovered this promising "small business" film company called Mirror Entertainment. It looks really promising: http://www.mirrorente

How about "The Concordat of Eywa"?

A "concordat" is usually an agreement between the Vatican and another sovereign country, or a "concord" can be a binding agreement among equals. The Swiss Federation is a group of smaller Swiss states ("cantons") that are bound together by a "concord".

So it would be an agreement among equals to certain binding resolutions between themselves and a higher principle-- in this case, called "Eywa" for, um... lack of a better theme.  ;)

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

In my opinion a democracy would be horrible. it is too exploitable. the man does not always know what is best for the man and the majority isn't always right. A single leader or 2 would make final decisions that wouldn't get wrapped up in debate and would be quick and true. If your argument is "what if they corrupt?" i really don't think they will be able to enforce their will on a full tribe of, say, 20 people who disagree.

sorry to derail that up there, i just wanted to be able to debate so people can form their opinions better. :D

And i think the "concordat of Gaia" would be better considering that is our semi-equivalent to Eywa.

how about "the concurrence of Terra "

im not particularly imaginative

so make it a dictatorship with 1 person leading, which screws up
Quotethe the man does not always know what is best for the man
and if its a majoritiry vote out of 20 people then im gonna say that there will be a general consencus between most, so its probably better for the tribe as its what teh majoritory wants

Concordat of Gaia might be good too.

Democracy at this level, with less than 100 participants, can be pure, direct democracy: "Athenian" or "town hall" style democracy, where everyone gathers and can vote directly and immediately. Corruption in democracy is hard to do at that level (without resorting to overt and direct means such as threats).

Corruption seeps in when a society gets so large that democracy can no longer be direct, but has to go through phases and groups-- voting district to town council --> city --> county --> state --> nation. Each level of complexity adds more places for cracks to develop.

When everyone meets, say, once a week to discuss issues, you can all do the secret ballot (or the show of hands for quick decisions) and it can be tallied on the spot. In front of everyone.

In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.

yes, and my point is if 20 people want something else than the single leader has ruled and they realize they are being injusticed then what chance does the 1 leader have to stand against them? I'm just saying in times of fear and unlevel thinking democracy will fail. Not the best example but a pretty good one is the Salem witch trials and the red scare in the 50's.

I am in agreement with you. I think that a Tribal Council, composed of Myself, Unil, the eventual Eyktan, and a few other senior members should be the governing force of the Tribe. I mean, if we get too much negative feedback, then it would be the obligation of the Council to act in accordance with the will of the people, but a Council seems the best option. It would probably serve as both the Legislative and Judicial Branches, with the Eyktan a separate branch ^_^ Just my personal opinion, take it as you will ^_^

Also, I think that an appropriate name would be something along the lines of "The (Insert Tribe name here) Accords" ^_^

but thats a dictatorship not a democracy! and we shouldnt be afraid or unlevel at all the red scare was comunism which was a dictatorship. if we had a dictator it wouldnt work but moder society( kinda) proves that democracy works

But, ma aysmuk, you must remember that the leader will [hopefully] be loved and respected for his/her wisdom... and wisdom isn't just acting, its listening and taking everything into consideration as well.

Please PM me if you are still interested in the real Na'vi tribe.

The red scare was an event in the 50's in the US that consisted of people abusing democratic powers and the judicial system to lock away people accused of being communist, it had nothing to do with dictatorship. Please, if you don't know a particular part of an argument don't make assumptions look it up. :)

By 1939 Hitler had become the most popular leader in German History, more so even than Bismarck. Although I agree that I don't see many dictators being able to rule over such a small group of people. Just putting forward an alternative viewpoint. Also not saying anyone here is a dictator :)

The Red Scare --the McCarthy Era as a whole-- is hardly an example of democracy operating under normal circumstances. It was an artificially generated scare campaign backed by large, major political movements that specialized in fearmongering their way into power. It was carried out in one of those large, multi-tiered democracies (the USA) that I described, the one where corruption and fraud is easier to carry out. There was a huge external threat (the Soviet Union).

The Salem Witch hunts were also carried out by a bunch of religious zealots who were so superstitious as to be almost scared of their own shadows. I would certainly hope that we were beyond such things at this stage of development, but who knows?

A direct democracy under these conditions would work. However, there are alternatives:
A Tribal Council, made up of rotating members every few months.
A syndacalist-democracy, where there are different groups of people in society (hunters, growers, builders, weavers, etc) and they all belong to their own voting bloc. When a major decision comes up, then votes are tallied by bloc: the hunters and weavers vote yes, the growers and builders vote no, in the event of a tie, the olo-eytkan casts the tie-breaking vote.

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Damn good point. I've wanted to verbalize that in discussions with certain people for a while now, but I've never been able to put it so succinctly.
