Yeah.

So, for those who don't know, the Healthcare bill passed last night.  Sunday night.
Everyone's pissed.
A. It was passed illegally.
B. It's socialist [not being mean here, it actually is]
C. It sucks.
D. It will make any tribe setup in the states a lot harder to deal with, legally.

Basically, the bill requires that everyone purchase or have health care/insurance.  It requires ALL businesses, big or small, to provide health care benefits to its employees.  If you don't, you get fined.

Now, even if we don't consider the tribe a business or an organisation, this still might effect us.  It would mean that everyone living or visiting the tribe must have some sort of income to purchase that health care.

Also, other bills that may be/ have been passed:
The making fishing illegal bill [I know, very technical]

Please, please.  Input, ma aysmuk.
Also, let me know if I need to add anything to this.  Or fix anything.
And, just to note, not EVERYTHING in this bill is bad.  I think not letting insurance companies to drop someone because they have an illness is a good thing.

Please PM me if you are still interested in the real Na'vi tribe.

A. If it was passed illegally it wouldn't have gotten past.
B. I seriously doubt you actually read through the bill, it's not nearly as socialist as it seems because if it was it wouldn't have gotten passed.
C. No valid reason for explaining why it sucks
D. It hasn't really even been decided that the tribe would be in the states.

C. Saying "it sucks" is not a valid complaint...

Nìwotxkrr Tìyawn is right, we haven't decided if it would be in the US yet. If you ask me I'd rather it not be in the US. Too much politics.

Too many human rights violations.  ;)

But I'm afraid I agree with Unil Txep. Let's not get into a full scale debate though.  :D

A. Like Muiäa said, it wasn't illigal, but it was passed in a completely partisan way, the exact opposite of how it's supposed to work.
B. I seriously doubt that you read through the bill either.
C. Saying, it will suck in the long term is, though.
D. I concur.

Really? Why did you feel the need to post this in both threads?

I don't know about you guys but to my mind this almost completely rules the US out, there were already concerns about actually getting the paperwork to get in, then the population size in America etc. and I just feel this is the last nail in the coffin

getting back on topic

i just spent the last hour going through news websites and doin some research, I wasn't particularly happy with what i read but i think that this bill is the perfect was for america to go

here are some quotes i found that you probably wont agree with but are very ture

QuoteSocialism without capitalism turns to tyranny. Capitalism without socialism turns to barbarism.
this one is so good im gonna put it in my bar

QuoteThe sooner Americans realise the truth of a mixed economy, the better their world will become. In the meantime, their right-wing pundits should learn from the NHS, not mock it.

you may knock the NHS but it was brilliant before tony blair and gordon brown got hold of it

BBC News - US House passes key healthcare reform bill

if you go on the BBC website ^^ and scrool down there are some staticics which i found quite interesting.

Ok now for the opinions of 2 different people about the bill, guess which one i like more!

QuoteThis is a 'Robin Hood' plan to rob the well-off to give to the have-nots, and this is what socialism really is
Tom Brown

WTF selfish or what

The only way they are going to pay for this is by cutting the funds available through Medicare. More and more doctors will leave Medicare.
It will decrease the quality of healthcare and we will end up like England where if you have anything that is the slightest bit postponable you can wait months and months for care

typical american prick

Nor is he doing anything to stop the pharmaceutical industry making outrageous profits. Drugs in Canada cost half as much as they do in the United States.

then move to canada

This may work well in England, but will not sit well with the American people and the [mid-term] election results in November will, I believe, reflect this to a great extent.

it does work well in england (although isnt this very hipocritical of yourself tom?)

I was laid off from my job as an IT manager in 2008 and as a result of that we lost the healthcare insurance which had covered us both.

this is why it doesnt work

I know the NHS is sometimes too costly for the country and is not always getting the same quality of care but my mother-in-law is in her 80s and was treated very well.

but isnt america the richest country in the world ?

I know this isnt the best layed out (or thought out piece i have ever done) but im rushed for time so if u dont understand just say and ill make my views clear(er)

I listened to Fox's sumarry of the bill and the only thing I didn't like was that you are covered till you 26 bit. I don't really HATE it (it's a Godsend to our family) but I think it is too high. 22 would be better (it would allow you to get a Master[I think] degree in all most any field).

Here in Europe (well, Sweden at least), we find it both humourous and annoying that people thinks that "those socialists" are "evil".
I live in Sweden, a social democratic nation. If Obama would live in here, he would be viewed as a not-very-socialistic, conservative politician.
Since Sweden is a very democratic nation, we have chosen this for ourselves. In fact the Social Democrats have won almost every single election since the Second World War.

We have now had a blue government consisting of an alliance of right-block parties for the last four years, and according to a whole lot of the upcoming election's first-time voters (myself included), they have made some of the worst political decisions we've ever seen.

So at least give socialistic views some breathing space; it's not nearly as bad as some people say it is.
Feel free to correct my (potentially big) grammatical screw-ups, it will be appreciated! =)

Wow, public Health-care!

Welcome to the rest of the 1st and the most of 2nd world!

Public Health-care is a benefit im pretty sure the major count of American people (not the rich) will share this opinion.

Congratulations to Obama to resist all his opponents on this topic!
