What made you join up? AND STAY...

Well, I have been glancing around (whilst working on our surprise), and discovered that there are around three people who have stuck through this project since the beginning. Many have had other commitments, others have had other plans.

So what made us stay? Personally I vowed to make sure this project comes to fruition. Anything less would be more than a personal failure to me.

And for the rest of us, what made you want to do this? In the beginning, I remember some people say that they wanted to run away from the world - I personally don't like that reason...but my own reasons are so complicated and spiritual that I doubt I could write it all down!

I know I'm new here, but I have a been a commited member of the Revolutionists (and thus this general idea) for half a year.

At first glance, I thought "Cool idea, but I would NEVER be able to do this myself."
But after reading through the entire "Living Na'vi Style... In the Wild?"-thread on AF, I was not so sure anymore, and was interested enough to sign up at the Revolutionists.

What made me interested... I don't know, but I thought that maybe this lifestyle is healthier, at least emotionally. And for the last year or so (especially after I saw "HOME"), I have become more and more conscientious about almost everything I do, realizing that the reality of western society today is going to kill the planet if we don't change our lifestyles drastically.
(Of course not every human on Earth can adopt this lifestyle, but it's at least something.)

Why I've stayed? I don't get interested in something just to loose interest a couple of weeks or months later, when I'm into something, I'm committed. And if I do this, I have nothing holding me back. No family, no friends.

Quite a complex mixture of reasons, but mostly because I can see lots of evidence that my current lifestyle is damaging and cannot continue, and I won't live my live knowing I'm causing death and suffering. Thus I have remained determined to improve.

Well, my reason could actually be described as "to run away from this world"  ;D
but i have many reasons to "run away". for example the search for peace of mind, true freedom, spirituality, immediate proximity to nature, the possibility to live a quiet life and to find a brotherly and peacefull community which deserves to be designated as "Society".

I wouldn't run away. If I were you, I'd start changing your area to become the place you want to be. Now, I'm not advocating that we break up the idea of setting up a tribe somewhere remote, but I don't think that running away is really the best reason to join.

On a tangent of that, it's interesting how much closer we are coming to nature as the technology improves. I wouldn't be surprised if society kind of starts leaning towards the same mentality that we have here in the nearish future. Who knows? Perhaps those futuristic concepts with the super-green integrated with nature cities may come to pass.

Back on topic, the main reason I am sticking with this (behind the scenes, anyway, especially since the eco-village board is pretty much dead) is because going out and living in the wilderness is something I've done for a long time, and I'm more likely to get it done in a group of motivated people than just by myself.

Well I've been here since the start, had a stint of inactivity though a few months ago :( . I have always disliked the way that modern western society has worked, so that and my love of nature are my reasons. And I've stayed because I always try to stay determined with things of great importance to me :D

Have you always had the same profile name? I don't remember you from when I first found this part of the board (2 or 3 weeks after it got it's own board I think). But it has been a year and I haven't been on consistently either.

Yeah I've stuck with the same name, I just haven't exactly been the most active member, that's probably why you don't recognise me :D

All that matters is that you keep showing up!!

But now I'm curious about your name. My Na'vi is a bit rough. Does that translate to "The word of Eywa"?

Yeah it is, My name is Samuel, which I found out means Word of God, I think you can see the root there :D

I've been here in the times of Toruk Txonä, Ean Ikran, Eana Ikran, Eana Nantang, Eana Nantang 'Rrtaya, and now Nargacuga. I don't really have to warn people any more because the mod stars stay the same. ;) But yeah, life's a pain right now, my father strips my rights to make HIS life better, I have to deal with the devil himself in my house, I hate civilization for a start, and I still have internet. The 4 main reasons I'm here.

Awesome name. I got my user name way basically. Somewhere along the line my full name translates to "Strong Son". So I went with 'Itan Atitxur, but I was told the grammar was wrong, so now it's 'Itan Atxur.

Lol, Nargacuga, no wonder I thought you were new here! I was wondering how you became a mod so fast...

I'd prefer Atxur anyway, sounds smoother :D

Exactly. But I think we've all gotten a bit off topic :(

Got voted in the yonder days, but yeah, I can't stand the whole Username thing. I have to change it constantly, but I enjoy Narga's so I might keep this one.

Well, after watching Avatar for the first few times in theaters, I noticed I'd been getting a bit of the "Post Avatar Blues" that some people were getting. Then I read in the papers about people actually talking about suicide because Pandora can never be real.

Though I never got the "Blues" that bad, that's what planted the idea of leaving all this "modern society" behind and maybe joining one of these small communities of essentially farmers. I knew I wanted to take it a step further and go tribal, but I didn't dare voice this to anybody (even once I started visiting Learnnavi.org on a regular basis) because I knew they'd think I was insane.

Then I happened across this part of the board... and I thought they were all crazy. The original topics were very "dreamy" and too focused on Avatar despite claiming not to be. Though I noticed there were enough dedicated and grounded people here, so I decided to hang around.

The dedication and open mindedness everybody here has shown is undenyably the reason I'm still here even after so many long absences. The moment I leave this forum (for whatever reason I have at the moment) I immediately miss it.

I was originally looking for like an Online Clan, which didn't work out for me. Then I found this, assumed it was the RP clan as everyone was saying it wasn't, learned about the true purpose of this, and THEN got the Avablues. Since then crafting stuff has been my life story. (Even though I made a bow and 2 weaves, it takes time.)

I haven't even started a single project, so you're way ahead of me.
