Some good points here. The forum rules and guidelines were originally based on the more common social media ToS at that time. Mostly such restrictions were to prevent spam and off-topic links or to prevent competitors from advertising their sites and products. To the thoughts voiced above, it could indeed be time to review all of the rules guidelines for the forums, including the posting of links to other sites and resources. Definitely good for discussion with the community!

I need some help understanding the scope of this rule change. Any links to external websites in signatures are forbidden now?

I am interested in this as well.

I understand external sites that may be understood as advertisment … so, I removed the link to my author profile on amazon.

But I am very much opposed to removing links to further/specific learning materials or resources pertaining to Na'vi or Avatar specifically.

Does the same hold for topics? Are topics like Plumps' dict-na'vi topic forbidden too? I would be really sad if that's the case.

That would hold true for every topic that links to a google document, every resource (including Naviteri.org as well!!!), reference book or file that is not stored on LN which makes keeping information available for people extremely hard, should anything happen to the server. It's always dangerous (and careless) to store everything in one place.

And let's best not talk about links in your profile to facebook, twitter or instagram profiles …

Can you explain how such a rule change would be beneficial to learners, who will lose valuable opportunities finding relevant resources?

Seconded.

I understand that if it is something completely unrelated Na'vi you could draw a line. But for learning resources this is unreasonable in my opinion because all it does is restricting the ability to spread and find new Na'vi language resources.
Agreed!

Na'vi ressources should IMO be freely advertised as per the mission of this website, no matter the origin (so the rule should be updated to represent the reality of 2022).

I think that the spirit of the rule is to prevent people from advertising projects unrelated to Avatar such as portfolios, games, products and lifestyle blogs.

I removed the Kelutral link because it's probably the point of conflict, but I am not really comfortable with removing Fmawn ta 'Rrta, which is a project I started years ago on this forum, is still independent from LN and Kelutral, and provides Na'vi-only content to everyone. Na'vi ressources should IMO be freely advertised as per the mission of this website, no matter the origin (so the rule should be updated to represent the reality of 2022).

In most forums I know this is forbidden. So not really a new problem.

Most forums are not about learning a language for which it can be hard to find enough resources since compared to other things we just don't have so many resources. It should be as easy as possible for learners to find every available resource so they can go through them and decide for themselves which one they find the most useful for themselves. Everyone learns different, so everyone will find something else helpful. So I actually appreciate seeing links to own projects in the signature.
