In a building overlooking the Spartans

God damned Spartans Kylar thought.Since the covenant had come he'd been living in the sewers but right now he was scavenging for supplies. The Spartan had just kicked down the door that he'd spent ages making sure there was no sign of his passing and now the Spartan was going to bring the covenant down on them like flies to a carcass.

Kylar drew the scarf back up over his mouth and nose and started up the stairs to the roof. his muffled boots not making a sound on the cold steps.

Team Onyx were like ghosts in the shadows. They moved quickly from cover to cover, but slow enough to keep themselves off of enemy radar. Their eyes were constantly on the move, scanning alleys and their radar for possible ambushes.

Suddenly Onyx 4's status light flashed amber, the sign that he had contact. Chris signaled to the squad to find cover, and moved into a position across the street from Ricky. A low hum filled the air as a Wraith rounded the corner and headed their direction. Chris' breathing quickened, but he forced himself to remain calm. The pilot hadn't seen them, so the best they could do was keep their cover. Several tense seconds later and the vehicle reached the end of the street and turned off to continue it's patrol.

Suddenly an arm wrapped around his neck. He struggled to wrench it free, but his attacker had better leverage. His vision began to blur, and ultimately faded to black.

0300 Hours

When he awoke, he immediately bolted upright, ready for combat. But what he saw wasn't quite what he had expected. They were in a sub tram maintenance facility, beneath the city. That was the normal part. But filling the space were close to a thousand refugees. The men who were fit enough all held UNSC standard weaponry. Women and children huddled in fear in small clusters. The noise of tired mothers and frightened children filled the air, accompanied by the low whisper of conversation.

A particulary gruff-looking man noticed that Chris had recovered and made his way across the space, weaving through the crowd. "You'll have to excuse the surprise," he said, "but my men weren't taking any chances." "I'm sorry, but I didn't catch your name." "I'm Rajeed Fakham, I'm in charge here. At least until some help arrives." Chris studied the man. He was bronze skinned, more than likely a farmer before the recent events. But he was well built, and commanded an air of authority, as well as comeradity. "Well then Rajeed, the Cavalry has arrived."

Refugee Camp, City Center

"Yes sir. I'd put a rough estimate of a thousand refugees." The gasp on the other end of the comm relay was unmistakeable. "Alright. Don't worry Onyx 1. You can tell them we'll get them out alive. Evac escorts en route to your location." "Sir." "Good luck down there, son. We'll see you topside." Chris terminated the link and packed up the unit. As he handed it back to Ricky, he turned to address Rajeed. "UNSC evacuation escorts are on the way. We're going to get you all out of here." "That's the best news I've heard in a long time. But if you don't mind, we've got a parting gift for our uninvited guests."

He whistled and a heavyset man covered in grease brought forth a Havok Tactical Nuclear Mine. "We stole it when all things sane went to hell. Figured it would come in handy eventually." Chris signaled Mark. "May he? He's our demolitions expert." "Be my guest." Mark stepped up to the man and he handed him the mine. Mark's eyes were practically aglow with anticipation. He looked like a child on Christmas morning. "It's been a long time since I've had an explosion this big on my command," he grinned. "There isn't anyone better for the job," Chris winked. "We're practically city-center here, we can set it prior to evac." Rajeed was right, there wasn't a better point in the city tactically for them to place the mine. "I can't wait. So when do we get started?"

'Kasamee made his way toward the comm link and makeshift command post.  He scanned the tarnished storefronts thoughtfully.  Broken windows, plasma burns, and a general layer of ash and soot from the distant fires of fields and forests that were glassed by the Jiralhanae.  He tried to stay focused on the task sent down from the Prophets, but there was a small thought in the back of his mind, one so minuscule that he wouldn't have noticed it if he didn't have this travel time to think.  Somehow the broken storefronts reminded him of the larger cities back home.

As he approached the Hotel he could see the 6 meter high Comm Node pulsing coolly atop the human structure.  The good mood that the sight gave him didn't last long as the hiss of a Kig-Yar crackled inside his helmet.  "Leader.  Lance 4 reporting."

"Go ahead."

"There's been a breach in the perimeter.  Two Unggoy and our lance captain are dead.  By the smell of their bodies they were killed only 2 or 3 units ago.  Humans."

"VERMIN!"  Fasu jumped out of his ghost and sprinted into the Hotel lobby.  Via the Comm Node, he sent a message out over the local battlenet.  "All Unggoy under my command are to immediately reinforce the perimeter.  Kig-yar teams divide up and begin patrolling the streets.  All Major Domo Sangheili will meet me at the command post."  Kaz looked out over the darkened city, brooding over the obvious human presence in the city.  "By the rings, I will make sure each and every one of them is exterminated."

Duma couldn't remember the last time he had so much fun. The last time he did have such a situation was 4 years ago, on a training mission with John and Kelly. Basically it had been a recon segment, where they had to go into a unknown location, retrieve valuable lintel from the base, and run like hell once they got it. Unfortunately they ran into a good amount of drill instructors and ended up taking a good portion of them out in order to get what they needed. John had always been alittle too commanding for his tastes, but he still liked him and loved doing missions with the guy and rest of Blue team. He wish they were here.
But he would have to make do with what fun he was having know.
Since the small encounter with the ODST's, he's been through several buildings as well as several "jackal" squads on his way to the way point. He didn't even need the cannon for the encounters; simply walked up behind them and knifed them all to death, then dragged them out of view. He knew eventually whoever was leading them would notice their absence, so he was doing the best that he could to get to the hotel before all hell broke loose before he could give it.
He silently went through another door opening and crouched behind some debris to look out at the "plaza" in front of him. It was definitely Cove central. a few minor elites and grunts roamed the area, casual but cautious. Across the street was the hotel itself, a blue pulsing beam on the to indicating a comms unit.
Setting the cannon down gently, he quickly peeked over his cover and magnified his visor to scan the hotel. pretty boring....that is until he spotted a single covenant elite in a window.
He did a sudden intake of breath. Ah hell...
It wasn't the armor configuration of an ultra that made him recognize the creature, nor was its helmet. It was his stance, his...presence...that made him know who the elite was.
     Kaz.
"Ryan, Jess, hold your ground. we have to be careful about this."
     Ryan teased, "Yeah, you think?"
"No, d*****, I'm not kidding....I know one of the elites."
"You KNOW one of these things??" Jess hissed.
He sighed. "Yes. It probably doesn't remember me, but I sure as hell remember. We had only encountered each other once, but it was a hand-to-hand combat thing awile ago. He won, and right before he tried to finish me off, he said in plain English, 'Remember that Fasu 'Kasamee's hand was the one who silenced you...' But how I survived is not the point. The point is that this 'Fasu' is cunning and dangerous. Leave him to me. I think it's time to settle the score.
"Ryan, you have permission to fire at will. Jess, whenever you are ready."
     "Mark."
He nodded. "Alright, lets crash this party!"
Ryan's shot rang out as he took the first shot. Half of an elites face disappeared and fell to the floor. Grunts started to scatter in panic as more of Ryan's shots rang off. most of the covenant turned to were he had fired, which proposed him an opportunity. he grabbed his cannon, got up, and crashed trough the door leading out into the plaza, firing as he went. Several grunts, jackals, and an elite fell from the onslaught. His shields flared as they begun to fire at him.
Then Jess came out and tossed a few grenades in the covenants forces and gave supporting fire for Duma. Grunt bodies went flying as He and Jess to momentary cover.
"You sure know how to make a dramatic entrance," Ryan chuckled. another shot rang out, and another elite fell.

Kylar had reached the roof without even getting noticed. Not even when a Spartan ran right past the doorway he had concealed himself in. He'd tailed the Spartan along the rooftops. He'd hung back to avoid being noticed and watched as the Spartan opened fire with the sniper rifle.

Damn Spartans are going to get us all killed. Kylar though. He waited a few moments then noticed that the Spartan was absorbed in his sniping...
Time for a little fun.

Without making a sound he pulled out a small piece of paper and a pencil that he'd hung onto for a while now.
The note was simple enough. "Try being alert once in a while" it read. He pulled one of the many knives he'd acquired from various places and pinned it against a post a few feet away from the Spartan. Then after checking he hadn't been noticed Kylar vanished into the early morning gloom.

{0311 hours}

Five sets of eyes stared back at Fasu in the makeshift conference room on the Third floor.  A steady humming vibrated through the ceiling from the comm node on the roof and a bluish glow cast harsh shadows across each face in the room.  "We have been given the task of exterminating the human infestation in this city, an infestation the Jiralhanae failed to destroy the first time.  Now I have word that the humans on the move, attempting to escape their fates.  However we shall grind them into dust under foot, as dictated by our Prophets.  Search every crack and crevice of this area.  Leave no stone-"

CRACK!

'Kasamee stopped dead mid-sentence as chaos ensued outside the Hotel in the streets.  He ducked down below the window and keyed the battlenet.  "REPORT!  What is happening?"

"Humans!  Hard to tell how many!  They are storming-"  CRACK!  Silence.

Fasu had a feeling what was killing his soldiers.  He turned back to his majors.  "It is now clear that we shouldn't need to search very far.  Go down to the second level and wait for the vermin to come to you.  Fear not pain nor death, but do not act foolishly.  Stay down and hail plasma upon their heads."

Five affirmations were the response and five majors filed out to barracade the second floor.  Two entered the stairwell and squatted poised on the landing above the stairs, one with a plasma rifle and the other with a plasma repeater, both with plasma grenades ready to stick to any unlucky humans.  The next two held the doorway, one with a needler and the other with a concussion rifle.  The final Major Domo stood at the rear, carbine trained on the stairs.

Fasu peered out the window at the carnage left behind.  What few grunts remained at the command post were now all on the ground, along with a few Minor Domo Sangheili.  "Fasu 'Kasamee to the Commander."

"Go ahead."

"Human presence confirmed, and they've taken out over half my lances.  Request for reinforcements."

"I will send a Mgalekgolo kill team down."

----------------

Ustaf jumped down a ladder into a cramped tunnel of the underground sewers, immediately followed by three of his own Majors.  The tunnel was just large enough for all of the Sangheili to hunker down and crawl through as they made their way through checking for survivors.

"To think that I once believed the Jiralhanae smelled rank.  They pale in comparison to these heretics."  One of the majors remarked.  As they made their way to a junction point, Ustaf halted.  Fresh bile was flowing through this larger tunnel.

"I think we've found their hiding spot." Ustaf 'Santomee stood up half way in the larger tunnel, and began to follow the bile upstream, energy sword at the ready.

Nearly all of the Covenant forces were obliterated by Nova Team's tactics. What was left was pretty pitiful in Duma's eyes. He expected much more resistance then what had been thrown at them...well they did have the advantage of surprise, but still. If, and he was pretty sure it was, Fasu was leading them, he would of done much more then this weak attempt at defense.
No, he knew something wasn't right, but he just wasn't sure how it was going to present itself.
Unfortunately it did it with devastating results.
He wasn't paying attention-the first major mistake he could ever make. He was too focused on the remaining forces, dwindling the numbers with his cannon, Jess's support, and Ryan's sharp shooting, that he didn't notice the two giant blimps on his radar coming from the hotel's direction. Neither did Jess, so the fault wasn't all his.
"Duma, Jess, incoming!" Ryan suddenly shouted.
Then we noticed our radars, and turned.
A giant shield lashed out at Jess before she could even roll. She shot across the street twenty feet away into a lamp post. He heard a muffled "umph" as she fell to the ground, out cold.
     "What-"
A second shield formed in his vision and lashed at him as well. he also flew across the plaza, but was able to hold onto his cannon as he landed on his side. He staggered to get up as he swore. "Hunters," he coughed, "Just what I need."
He barely had time to roll to the side behind cover as both charged their own fuel rod cannons and shot at his direction, turning assault into slag in seconds. Ryan got a shot off right into the first hunter's exposed back before the second turned its attention to him and shot at the buildings rooftop.
"F***ing hunters!" Ryan shouted in anger. "where the hell did they come from?"
Only one thought came to him. He wheezed, "You think you can run-and-gun these things while I distract them?"
"You can't pin them both down, and you know that."
"That is why I said run-and-gun!"
Before Ryan could reply, he stood and started shooting at both of them, trying to get them to keep there backs to Ryan's sniper.
It got their full attention. They started to charge their own cannons, but every time he strayed them with plasma back and forth, they would stop to raise their shields to hold off his barrage. They were able to get a few shots out, but he successfully side-stepped each one.
Finally Ryan got a good shot out. CRACK! A second later it tore right through the second hunter’s neck, nearly severing the thick orange thing in half. The hunter was able to give of a roar of defiance before it crashed to the ground with a solid thump.
A much louder roar came from the partner and it charged him with startling speed. Duma fired at the creature, but it was futile. He did the second major mistake of that day-letting go of your weapon-and did a barrel roll backwards before the final hunter could stomp on him. It roared again and crushed the cannon to scrap beneath its boot.
Duma grabbed his DMR from his back and aimed at the creature, even though he knew it wouldn’t do anything to the hulking 12-foot alien. Apparently he didn’t need to. 3 simultaneously thuds sounded behind the hunter. Before the Spartan could react, the sticky grenades exploded, killing the hunter instantly and sending it forward…strait at him.
It crashed on top of him, pinning him to the ground with its dead weight. Orange blood started to seep over his armor. He struggled to get the thing off him, but the thing was over a ton and although the armor could take the weight it wasn’t strong enough to lift it.
“Get this thing off me!!” he yelled.
He could hear muffled laugher, but no one came to help him for several min. Then two sets of hands appeared and slowly lifted the thing off of Duma and dropping it next to him. Jess and Ryan stood over him, obviously enjoying how he looked. Jess’s armor was a bit banged up, but she was fine.
“Jeez, you look like a giant neon sign,” Ryan snickered.
“Yeah, yeah, just shut up and help me up.”
They both snickered but didn’t complain otherwise. Once on his feet, he asked, “Where are the rest of the covenant troops?”
“Hiding,” he replied. “I think their even more afraid of the alien creatures that just destroyed the only things in their arsenal that were supposedly unstoppable.” He shrugged. “I don’t blame them.”
Duma nodded. “Good. Let’s get this over already. You up to play ball sis?”
She slugged him in the shoulder with the butt of her battle rifle.
“I guess that answers the question. Both of you, go sweep the first floor. We’ll do the second in a sec.”
She started to ask, “Aren’t you going to wash that stuff-”
     “No time. Now come on.”
     They headed into the building.

Both Mgalekgolo lay on the ground in front of the hotel, defeated by these three peculiar humans.  The Kig-yar sniper signaled his two other comrades to spread out along the rooftops across from the hotel.  The Mgalekgolo may have fallen, but weakened the demons.  As soon as they entered the hotel lobby, the sniper signaled to advance behind the demons.

--------------------
Second floor stairwell

"The demons have defeated the mgalekgolo.  Fear not, for the vermin have been weakened.  Exterminate them."  Was the order over the battlenet.  The five majors readied themselves for the three person assault.  One of the majors slowly peered down the staircase, looking to locate their objectives.

"What do you see Rtas?"

"There are three of them, one with what looks like a sniping weapon.  Just beyond them at the front door:  three Kig-yar snipers."  Rtas whispered.  Rtas 'Vadumee stood a head shorter than the other four, reaching a respectable 7' 10".  His fiery orange eyes glinted in the darkness as he inched back up the stairs.  "If the Kig-yar open fire, we will have the element of surprise and easily slay them."

The others nodded in agreement.  They all listened intently.

--------------------

"The demons have defeated the mgalekgolo.  Fear not, for the vermin have been weakened.  Exterminate them."
All three Kig-yar acknowledged this command and took positions right outside the lobby entrance.  A quick gesture gave the command to enter the lobby quickly and quietly.  All three advanced from cover to cover, to within 10 meters of the human team.

One by one, they all lined up their shots.  One for each of the demons.  The final Kig-yar stood up to line up his shot, carefully aiming around a small potted tree.  One step to the left and- "ACK!" slipped on concrete debris.  Three particle beams lit up the room, two hitting the ceiling.  The remaining one hit Jess in the arm.  Meanwhile, all three snipers fell in a heap on the floor, squawking and squabbling.  Their behavior might be analogous to the 20th Century figures "The Three Stooges."

--------------------

The Majors bounded down the stairs and into cover at the sound of the Beam Rifle fire.  The Demons were now under a hail of needles and super-heated plasma.

"Covenant!" Chris spun and was faced with four Elite Majors, each armed with an energy based sword weapon. He swore and barked orders into the comm. "Onyx, pick your targets. We promised these people that we'd get them out alive, and that's exactly what we're going to do." Three acknowledgment lights winked their response. He whipped out his sniper rifle, and sighted one of the Elite's heads. He squeezed the trigger and the bullet flew. One shot, one kill. "Bullseye." Out of the corner of his eye, Chris saw a second Elite fall under the suppressive fire of Kara and Mark.

He sighted a third Elite, but never got the chance to fire. An enemy contact blurred in motion on his radar, straight for him. He barely had time to dive out of the way as a particularly large Elite sliced the air where Chris had once stood, effectively shearing through the barrel and ruining his rifle. He dropped the broken weapon and reached for his SMG. "So he wants it tough then."

He unloaded the weapon into the oncoming warrior. The Elite's shields flickered, spiked, and then disappeared completely. It roared in agony as several rounds penetrated it's armor and suddenly lunged for Chris, knocking his weapon from his hands. Chris knew he was in trouble. The creature was much larger than him and currently had the upper hand. But if he could just reach the combat knife on his thigh. The Elite roared and extended a smaller sword on his wrist. Chris took the opportunity to grab his knife and turn the tide. He grabbed the Elite's wrist and mauled it, completely ruining his left hand. He then dove out of the creature's grip and crouched, panting. But when he turned to face the Elite again, he was gone.

Mark and the rest of the squad walked over to him. "You alright sarge?" Chris checked his biomonitors and did a quick check on the extremities of his body. "Yeah, I think. Just a little shaky." He stood and caught his breath. "We need to start evac now. The Covenant will be on this place like flies to milk, now that they know where it is." Kara nodded her agreement. "Well alright then, let's get these people topside." He walked over and picked up his SMG, pausing in memory, and then proceeded with evacuation.

Chris found Rajeed and detailed the plan. The older man listened intently, nodded, and got order. Chris let him speak with the refugees because he commanded their attention more than a random ODST would. He had earned their respect, and Chris wasn't going to take that away from him. Rajeed outlined the plan, evac routes, pelican landing zones, and fallback positions. Chris couldn't have said it better himself. "Alright people, let's move."

Apparently the remaining covenant forces weren't hiding as much as Ryan said they were. Before any of them could react, three beams shot out from behind them. One hit Jess in her left arm. It completely took out her shields, but did little to harm her. It did catch her off balance though.
"F***," she cursed, starting to head face first to the floor.
Duma grabbed her shoulder to right her, but at the same time a group of 5 majors crashed through a set of doors leading up to the second floor. By their timing, they had been waiting for them. They started to raise their weapons.
Duma didn't think. With enough strength to lift her off the ground with one arm, he pushed/threw he out of harms way as a hail of needles and plasma came in their direction. There shields could take most of it....except for the concussion rifle the shortest of the five held. The creatures eyes and height actually made him curious of who it was before his battle senses kicked in.
He swore as his shields went down a second before Ryan's did. He yelled at his team-mate to move as he through a set of grenades, his last ones, at the feet of the first two. A few bolts were able to graze him as the grenades detonated, killing the elites shields in the first blast and killing themselves in the second He dodged a few carbine shots as he got behind cover to wait for his shields to recover.
He grunted at the pain, but ignored it. he looked over at his other two partners. "Are you alright?"
"My shields are completely down. They wont come back up," Jess wheezed.
He swore again. more plasma shots fired at their positions. "Ryan, get her out of here. make sure the mini-nuke gets placed. Once it is, contact Chris and tell him to haul @$$."
     "No, we're not-"
"Thats an order, Nova team. I'll be fine." He pulled out his own "present", which was an experimental EMP micro-chip. He had no idea if it was going to work on all the covenant's shielded ships or not at all, but it was was worth the risk. Anything to give Cole an advantage up in space. "Just got to get this from point A to point B. Simple enough."
He couldn't see her face, but he could tell from body language that she was close to sobbing-another un-sparten-like action, but they had been together since they with each other since they were todllers. They were family. But she struggled to nod. "You come back in one piece, you hear? If you don't, I'm haunting you in hell. Got it?" Her voice broke in several places.
He nodded. "I will. Now go. I'll cover you."
Ryan stood the moment she did and fired at the one major with an needler. A bullet hole formed in the elites skull, spattering purple blood all over the short one. In their moment of shock, Jess and Ryan ran for the hotel doors, Jess firing at whatever had shot at them on the way in. The shorter one and the one with the carbine were able to get a few shots off before Duma rose and started firing, running in their direction.
They started to retreat. Duma brought down the shorter one's shields with a few shots before running head-long into the warriors torso with a tackle. They struggled to best eachother, beat the other into submission, but it was pretty even. The other major couldn't get a clear shot without shooting his comrade as well.
The shorter one then got an advantage. Duma accidently tripped on one of the dead bodies of the majors and lost balance. the short one head-butted Duma's helmet, sending him to the ground and, with a well placed kick, kicked him in the head again and knocked him out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jess and Ryan watched the battle from cover as Duma fell and got taken out.
     "No..." she whispered
The other major started to point its carbine to finish the job, but the shorter one barked something. The other pause, then nodded. The shorter one got both of Duma's hand and pulled him out of sight into where they had come.
"What the f***?? I thought covenant don't take prisoners."
Ryan shook his head. "So did I. I guess...wait. I think Duma knew the commander, or whoever is leading, would want to see him himself. would want to torchure him or whatever is planed."
Jess didn't respond. Ryan plased a hand on her shoulder. "Jess. Come on. We have a job to do."
As they started to leave, Jess couldn't help beut look back one more time before fading into the background as they set of for the second rally point.

"Ran into harder resistance than you expected?" kylar called out to the two Spartans as he dropped down from the balcony he'd been sitting on.
"To be honest I'm kinda happy that one of you got killed because that means one less of the monsters that killed my family are breathing but for now I suppose you're not the biggest monsters out there" Kylar told them.
"If you're looking for the resistance you're going the wrong way"

CLINK....
BOOM!

The shields of two Majors popped in the grenade explosion, sending them back a few yards.
CLINK....
The two majors, in shock from the first blast, stared at the approaching oblivion and tried to move out of the way...
BOOM!

Rtas withdrew to cover for a moment to collect himself as cover was given by the carbine.  He picked up the fallen Plasma rifle and fired around the corner until the weapon locked up.  "They are in cover!  Flush them out with a grenade!"

The hand of the needler wielding Major lit up as the plasma grenade began burning.  He had to toss the explosive before the shell had a chance to become super-heated and sticky.  As soon as it left his hand the Major dropped to the floor, his helmet pierced clean through, leaving a stream of Tyrian Purple blood in it's wake.

Rtas recoiled and winced, but then fired again the group of three again.  Concussion rounds ripped through the front doors just as the two retreating humans fled.  For a fleeting moment Rtas thought of giving chase, but then remembered the third demon.  Bullets pelted his shields as the human charged toward them. Naturally the two remaining Majors backtracked for cover, but the demon had more momentum and plowed into 'Vadumee's abdomen, sending him crashing against a wall and sending both soldier's weapons out of reach.  It was to be hand-to-hand combat from here on.

A few fists connected with the Major's mandibles before he was able to block the blows and counter with a knee to the human's chest.  Rtas landed a hammer-like blow to the human's skull as he reeled from the knee.  The Major took out his small plasma blade and lunged for a killing blow, but was blocked and countered.

The Human backed up to regain his senses a little but lost his balance tripping over one of his kills, and Rtas, seeing the opportunity, rammed the demon with a head-butt.  A kick to the helmet on the way down was sufficient to knock off the demon's helmet and put him out cold.

The voice of Fasu 'Kasamee raged over the battle-net.  "Two of the Demons are getting away!  What happened?!"

"Three of us were taken out by the vermin.  I engaged in hand-to-hand combat with one of them, and knocked it out."

"What does it look like?"

"Brown armour, blue eyes, blond fur-"

"Bring him to me. Alive."

Just as the other major was about to end the Human's life, Rtas stopped him.

"The ultra wants to see him alive."

Ustaf 'Santomee knew when he was outnumbered.  His Majors had been taken out way too easily.  However, they knew exactly where to find the humans.  Ustaf retreated back down the tunnel and out of sight and broadcast on an open channel.  "Ustaf 'Santomee to Command.  I have found Human stronghold.  About one thousand strong."  There was a pause before Joyous Clarity responded.

"Location confirmed.  Excavation and heavy artillery are on the way.  Orders from the Ship Master are to pull your remaining forces out for some rest.  From the sounds of it, you have had major vermin problems."

"Tell me about it.  Commands confirmed."

Ustaf sat for a moment, in thought.  'The vermin have been more than a nuisance to the Covenant this night.'

OoC: i wont post duma's actions on the hotel section until fasu meets him face-to-face in fear of controlling the characters without consent. i will continue with Jess and Ryan though. also, Rtas is covered in elite blood, remember, thanks to Ryan's sniper round to the head.

Jess was starting to get agitated with the situation she was in. Not only did she have no idea if her best friend-and brother-was dead, but she and Ry Ry (A nick-name she had given him when they were 4 years old in kindergarten) just had to run into more trouble. A civilian who looked like he had been living in the sewers for weeks on end.
But she had lost all patience with being professional. "Who the f*** are-"
"Jess," Ry said calmly, "he's not a threat." He eyes the civilian. "Yet. Your the one who left the note on the wall, yes?"
He didn't wait for an answer. "Then we could use all the help we can get. If you could sneak up on a spartan, then you just might be useful."
     "What note?" she asked, confused.
"Never mind that. We need to get so a safer location, hopefully the rally point." He gave his attention to the ragged looking man again. "Are you accompanying us?"

momentary anger flash through Kylar's eyes as he looked at the two Spartans. "The only reason you both aren't dead is because the resistance needs all the help it can get" He said coldly. "Now lets get going before I change my mind." Kylar walked towards a drain cover a few meters down the road and shifted it out of the way. "Coming?" He asked before lightly dropping into the blackness.

"Resistance??" Jess blurted, but the man with the strange red and blue eyes vanished down into a hole.
Both of the spartans looked at each other.
     "I don't trust this, Ry."
He nodded. "I don't either, but we need a faster way to the ONI underground and this...man has that faster way. I say we take it, but be on your guard. any sudden changes in action and introduce him to you little friend of yours."
She nodded, and both of them followed the strange guy down into the sewers.

Kylar swiftly led the two Spartans through the twisting and turning sewers. The tunnel sloped downwards slightly before intersecting a larger main pipe. Kylar followed the pipe up into the large chamber where the rest of the survivors from Gladsheim. The corpses of the elites were rather hard to miss.
"Had some visitors Rajeed?" Kylar called out to him while opening the bag he had slung across his back "I got those meds you wanted" he didn't bother mentioning the Spartans.

then he paused as he noticed everyone packing up. "I'm guessing something's gone wrong" He finished

Duma had been hefted up stairs and dropped in front of Fasu while his helmet, faceplate shattered, lay on the ground beside the human.  Fasu revived Duma with alien medicine.  Duma remained unbound due to how weak he would be.

Fasu contorted his vocal chords and mandibles to speak in the demon's own language.  "Major 'Vadumee, do you know who this is?" He translated into native tongue for Rtas 'Vadumee in the same mocking tone.

"No, I do not."  Rtas replied in distain, wiping some of his bretheren's blood off.

"Why, he is a dear friend of mine." Fasu said mockingly.  "Will you introduce yourself to my major?"

Several Spirit dropships landed, releasing drilling and blasting equipment and a complement of Covenant technicians and warriors, all eager to drill down to the human encampment and exterminate the humans.  The hum and explosions of drilling equipment shook the ground, causeing further damage to surrounding structures.

Meanwhile, what remained of Fasu and Ustaf's patrol troops boarded the Spirits to be taken back to the ship.

A single Spirit remained behind, hovering above the Hotel awaiting Ustaf and Fasu.

Harvest, Gladsheim; Main Street Hotel

Duma was able to get onto his knees with little strength he had left in his limbs and look at the expressionless helmet of Fasu. Up close he looked like nothing had changed from their first encounter, except maybe his rank.
"Oh, so you do remember me huh?" He chuckled. "Guess anyone would be pissed off and ready for revenge if I nearly killed them with an explosion from an slip-space engine. I guess my memory isn't that great."
He chuckled again, then looked down at his broken faceplate, frowning. "That was my favorite helmet, you @$$hole. You're gonna pay for that." Then he looked up at the scowling face-or at least he thought it was scowling all of the elites to him looked like they were overly thinking- of the major Fasu mentioned and said, "Oh, sorry about that-Vadumee is it? The names Duma." He made a nodding direction towards Fasu. "Nearly killed him and his brother the first time we met. By the way, how is your sibling healing up? Does he have enough scares to remind me of?" He chuckled again.
He knew he was being an @$$-and why shouldn't he? He was going to die anyway. All he had to do was slip the chip in one of their pockets before then....

Fasu was visibly becoming agitated by the demons insolence.  The ultra knelt down on one knee and looked straight into Duma's eyes through his helmet.  "You are in no position to talk to me in such a way.  Your destruction is the will of the gods; tell me why I should not gut you right here and right now."

He was scared sensless at that point, but he didn't show it. As far as the elite knew, he could be hatching a plot to somehow shove a pencil in his stomech before it speared him with an energy sword and he wouldn't know it was behind the blank slate of his face. A plan was forming, but all he needed was a bit more provoking...and he knew just how to do it.
Duma grinned at the helmet. "Because in those few moments that i met you on that ship, i knew you were different." he dropped his voice to a wisper, now serious. "In my prespective, you like to drag things on when your faced with a challenge. And I'm the biggest challenge you've seen in a wile." He leaned forward, but the elite did not flinch or move. "You want revenge. You want to drag out my pain instede of swiftly ending my life. That much I know. The only question is: what do you plan to do with me, Sangheili, before your higher leaders notice your semi-absence?"
