a metaphor for evolution

While obviously no metaphor ever can be perfect, this video offers a fairly good analogy for evolution by natural selection—that is, it shows how slight changes from a "pattern" over time can lead to multiple, wildly divergent new "patterns".  Give it a look  ;)

The point is, each person saw the previous person's - so they had no idea what the line originally was.
