Light pollution is evil!
Yeah, it is.
And it will be still worse and worse, sadly :(

Ma TEAgaming, where are you going in your State (if you can say) where you will have Class 1 skies?

Tomorrow, I am (Hopefully!) leaving for the Golden State Star Party. They have class 2 or 3 skies, and recently, they have had some local light pollution encroach on the site.

The Lassen Astronomy Festival, in early August, can have class 2 skies. The Oregon Star Party (3 days after Lassen) and the Great Basin Astronomy Festival (September) are definitely class 1 sites.

Here in Montana, I will be going to the ranch of my SO's family and will be staying with them for a night. The ranch is near well off the beaten path, about 30mi from any paved road.
There is one streetlight out there but it is on a switch and can be switched off.

I'm going to have a fun night!

It looks good, enjoy it!

Looks that sky would be again clear this weekend, this week was cloudy here.

Here's my report for Class 1 skies: AMAZING!

-Milky Way was bright and dust lanes were easily visible.
-M13 and M4 were almost fully resolved in by 6" Dob.
-M31 was visible to the naked eye, with faint dust lanes visible.
-I saw LOTS of open clusters.

Sadly there were some clouds taunting me in the Sagittarius, Scorpius, and Scutum regions. Seems like somebody just bought a new telescope and activated the New Telescope Curse.  ;D

Nice :) :)

I observed tonoght too. I saw Saturn, Mars and many deepsky:

Open clusters: M7, M6, M21, M23, M25, M18, M11, M26, NGC6709, NGC6755, M29, NGC6910, M39, NGC7160, M52, NGC7789, NGC457, NGC663, NGC654, NGC559, Stock 2, Double Cluster and Pleiades (low above horizon before dawn)
Globular clusters: M4, M8, M22, M28, M55, M75, M10, M12, M14, NGC6712, NGC6760, Palomar 11, M71, M56, M13, M92 and NGC6229
Planetary nebulae: NGC6818, M27 and M57
Nebulae: M8, M20, M17, M16, Veil Nebula, NGC7000 and IC5067
Dark nebulae: B142+143, B168

53 objects in a single night? :o
At least this isn't a Messier marathon ;D

Yeah ;D Sky conditions were just average so I observed each object only quite short time tonight so therefore such big number ;D

But if sky condition will be good tonight, I will observe few nebulae more detailed through various nebulae filters.

hmm nebulae filters

I need to expand my list of objects that I've seen...

Nebulae filters are very useful equipment :)

Can you post complete list of your observed objects?

Vawmataw

let's try hrh

Good. I wii see it, maybe I will found something which you could see and add.

Hmm ... my observed object list, it would be insane ;D

IMO you should make one because it shows your achievements

OK, I will try collect complete list of deepsky which I observed. Probably tomorrow, weather looks as excellent for astronomy tonight :)
But it will be very long list ;D (well, I stargazing more than 10 years)

And I did it.

I was under dark sky tonight ang sky conditions were really excellent. I observed nebulae with using of UHC, O-III and H-Beta filters.

M8 Lagoon Nebula, M20 Trifid nebula, M17 Swan nebula, M16 Eagle Nebula, NGC7000 North America Nebula, IC5067 Pelican Nebula, NGC 6992+6960 Veil Nebula, IC1318 A+B+C (nebulae complex arround star Gamma Cygni), NGC6888 Crescent Nebula, NGC 281 Pacman Nebula and IC1805+1848 (Soul and Heart Nebula).

Thanks excellent sky many of them was gorgeous even withouth filters and with filters it was just amazing - especially Veil Nebula through O-III filter.
Interesting is also IC1318 - this is not too faint, but for very light background of milky way it's almost impossible see it withouth UHC filter - with UHC light background disappear and nebulae are visible.

Sadly yeah, this is really for bigger telescope and excellent sky... (if it's visualy observable at all)
However I think that maybe I could see it (if sky condition will be excellent), I can see many details in M13 usually, but this I never noticed ... In any case I will try it.

Toliman

I observed Mars tonight again but seeing was really terrible tonight...

I observed also few deepsky: M2, M15, Double Cluster, M31 and M33 - it was far better.

Vawmataw

The night sky conditions were not so great so I didn't observe many objects:

M15, M21, M31, M32, M57, NGC 457, NGC 869, NGC 884, NGC 6633, IC 4756, Strongman cluster.
Of course, I observed the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
