"Scientists discover oldest evidence of stone tool use and meat-eating among human ancestors"

http://www.physorg.com/news200736968.html

The discovery seems to predate our once oldest evidence of stone tool usage by almost 1 million years, pushing it back from approximately 2.5 million years ago to 3.4 million years ago.  This would be the first (seemingly) solid evidence that Australopithecus afarensis used stone tools of some kind for butchering.

When I learned about this stuff in school, they only kept pointing out how A. afarensis was just a primitive thing that kinda resembled humans. It's neat to see them using tools, even if they might not have made them themselves. Imagine how cool it would be to be able to go back in time and have a look at what was really going on...

I'll bet that time travel is one of the things near the top of the "I wish it were possible" list for many people.

Before Avatar, it used to be the one thing I wished was possible. Now, it's going to Pandora...

thats the thing we don't know, how far does our existence go back, I've heard 1.1m years a few times, now 2m years, thats quite a feat for a species thats similar to us, but were also finding that our genetic family tree is forked and not linear
