Anyway, back to GPU + optimizing. The f@h page on "high-performance" clients linked to this page: http://en.fah-addict.net/articles/articles-1-3+gpu-environment-variables.php  .... but I am very scared. HRH. Uhhh should I just leave it on defaults for now and see how it goes? And I think I should just turn it off manually when I play games... the site one of you linked with the utility that turns it off automaticalyl when it detects a game running (can't find it now) didn't load.

What is "affinity of the core" ?!?!!?!?!?????!?!????? Is that setting which CPU core is telling the GPU what to do?!?!??!?!?!!

I have no idea, so I was trying to see how many "cores" my video card has.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9800_gtx_us.html  says:
"CUDA Cores:    128"   WTFFFFF?????????? So clearly it's not "cores in video card" cuz that must mean something else entirely.... ROFL

Anyway, my CPU is an intel core2 quad Q9550 @ 2.83ghz. Should I, uh, tell my gpu to, uh, use all the, uh, cpu cores? By setting NV_FAH_CPU_AFFINITY to 15, like the website says?

Quote15 -> 1111: CPU3, CPU2, ... CPU0 and CPU1 value adapted to a quad core.

HRH?

lost in the fog D:
The CPU is needed to control what the GPUs are folding. So you need some amount of computing power for that. I run the GPU client on a GTX470 and I haven't configured any special environment variables and I use the normal Geforce driver (the CUDA support is buil-in; you need the special driver or CUDA toolkit if you want to write your own CUDA programs AFAIK). The CPU load on my GPU folding PC (Phenom II 965 BE) is very low, theoretically I could run some additional CPU clients.

fold headless

A "headless" machine is a computer without any input (keyboard, mouse) and output (display) devices. I have several servers at home and they have only 2-3 cables plugged in: 1-2 power cords (2 on my server with the redundant PSU) and 1 network cable. Any management is done entirely via terminal services (SSH on Linux, RDP on Windows).

Wait, no. I was a Cal student. I should be running SETI@home instead. -_-

I was trying to make a "that's what she said" joke. LOL. I like the concept, though. I'm learning a lot! I oughta turn this 2nd desktop gathering dust here into a headless machine....

Haha, yes ;)

Okay, we just got a contestant. Tree of Souls is starting a F@H groups as I post this, we cannot let them overtake us!

All available units get in line and FOLD!

Already 54 WUs folded (team rank: 25344 of 192840) :)

I definitely need a faster computer. I did some math today and made an estimation on how many points I could gain per WU on the HPC machine to which I have access to: ca. 75k/WU. I was like "w00t?! *Wanna have*"

Sіr. Ηaxalot

How do you get those HUGE WUs ?

SMP2 + BigAdv + Bonus after 10 completed BigAdvs. But you need a computer from hell, the deadline is very short!

Sіr. Ηaxalot

Ah, I somehow doubt that my computer would make it, especially not if it requires a lot of memory..

The guys at f@h recommend an overclocked i7 with 6+ GB of RAM.
