On Pandora bioluminescence is an important part of life on land. Here on earth we also have that phenomena in smaller scale on land, but the place where it relly flourishes is in the dark of the Oceans. Here a large part of the creatures glow.

Here is a very interesting lecture by Edith Widder about that phenomena.

About Edith Widder:

QuoteA specialist in bioluminescence, Edith Widder helps design and invent new submersible instruments and equipment to study bioluminescence and enable unobtrusive observation of deep-sea environments. One of these instruments, the Eye in the Sea observatory, has produced footage of rare sharks, squid and never-before-seen bioluminescent displays.
