OK,

So I'm posting this here because ... well why will become apparent later.

"RIDON" Hoverbike

"RIDON" Hoverbike Technical Demonstration

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love one of these but my problem is that it is being portrayed (albeit on YouTube) as somethign in construction and as far as I know we don't even have the kind of anti-grav (or whatever it is) capability for this kind of thing so it's just a pipe dream yeah? Or am I wrong?

2nd vid, 0:26: how are the levitational engines even possible?  The answer to this question will tell all of whether or not it is a Sci-Fi model.

I believe that they have been able to make copper coils levitate using electromagnetism and the Earth's magnetic field so a hoverbike certainly isn't a complete impossibility however that device only pushed upwards and so couldn't also be used as the propulsion mechanism.

Perhaps one could have something like a maglev train, having the bike following a track.

I doubt it will be a big hit if the hovering vehicles have to follow a track, as it will cost to build all the "railroads" and the limitation will be a big downer.

..but the idea of the earth magnetic forces.

Still one could follow some tracks that go to chosen points. Its rather quick and it is an alternative to small trains or "cars" that also travel on tracks, even if it does not give the same freedom as a true motorcycle. But it could be a beginning until we can come up with another technical solution that will give us an unbound hoverbike.

Taken from the videos description:

"For people asking regarding possible realization: it is a fictional concept although the design was made with physical and logical considerations and the levitation technology direction is "Diamagnetic Levitation " based on molecular magnetism"

At this point such a device is pure science fiction, for now anyways.

One possible real world tech would be quadrotor, but it's still highly impractical.

... why not simply have the magnetic surfaces be able to move in different directions?  I mean, you point them down, and it floats.  You point them backward, and they move forward.  Following Newton's Third law...

Ok, I'm retracting any support I had for this as plausible. That's not how diamagnetism works and if they think it is then they are sadly mistaken, all diamagnetism would be able to do is levitate it but wouldn't be able to provide any directional force.

Until some similar thing will be invented we just have to use the good old fashioned Rocket Bike:
