Personality Types II

This personality theory is different than what I mentioned in my last personality type thread.  To an outsider it can appear somewhat mysical, and has been compared and contrasted with the 7 Chakras as well as the zodiac.  However, although complex, the Enneagram is all about personality, no more, no less.  Additionally, it captures something that the well-known Meyers-Briggs test doesn't: the whys of our behavior.  MBTI captures the hows, but not so much the whys.

There are 9 basic types (I recommend exploring around a little):

Type 1: The Reformer
Type 2: The Helper
Type 3: The Achiever
Type 4: The Individualist
Type 5: The Investigator
Type 6: The Loyalist
Type 7: The Enthusiast
Type 8: The Challenger
Type 9: The Peacemaker

Each of the 9 types are grouped into 3 main triads:
2,3,4: the Heart triad, shame fixation
5,6,7: the Head triad, fear fixation
8,9,1: the Body/Instinct triad, anger fixation

1,4,7 often turn their shame/fear/anger inward, while 2,5,8 turn it outward.  3,6,9 tend to take on traits of their neighbors in this respect.

The Enneagram doesn't stop there.  There are several other triads out there.

Spoiler: Hornevian Triads

Psychologist Karen Horney discovered these additional triads, so-called Hornevian triads:
1,2,6: "Compliant"
3,7,8: "Assertive"
4,5,9: "Withdrawn"

These triads are all about how each type copes with a stressful situation:
Compliant 1s comply with their superego to avoid a feeling of corruption and chaos.
Compliant 2s comply with their superego to avoid a feeling of uselesness.
Assertive 3s assert themselves so they can get the success/achievements they want.
Withdrawn 4s withdraw for the sake of their individuality.
Withdrawn 5s withdraw for the sake of inner clarity.
Compliant 6s comply with their superego to avoid a feeling of insecurity and fear.
Assertive 7s assert themselves so they can get the experiences they desire.
Assertive 8s assert themselves so they can lead on.
Withdrawn 9s withdraw for the sake of inner peace.

Spoiler: Harmonic Triads

These triads are all about how we go about problem solving.  TEMO, MBTI better explains this, but Enneagram does it a little differently:
2,7,9: "Positive Outlook"
1,3,5: "Competency"
4,6,8: "Reactive"

Competent 1s are competent to remain perfect (not implying that 1s are perfect, just that they strive to be).
Positive 2s are positive about others.
Competent 3s are competent to overcome obstacles to their challenges for success.
Reactive 4s react emotionally, taking things personally.
Competent 5s are competent to understand the "outside world," whatever that may mean.
Reactive 6s react about their insecurities.
Positive 7s are positive about themselves.
Reactive 8s react to try to avoid being controlled.
Positive 9s are positive about the problem at hand.

It also gets more complex with something called "wings."  This is where one type takes on the characteristics of a neighboring type.  You'll often see this notated as "9w1" or "6w7" with the "w" for wing.  Not to mention something called a tritype: one type for how you relate to the world (Body), one type for how you think (Head) and one type for how you see yourself (Heart).  A full Enneagram type will look something like this: 1w2, 3w4, 5w6.

Additionally, for each type, you have something called instinctual variants: SP, SX, and SO.

Finally, each type has a growth and stress arrow.  The paths are seen on most enneagram pics.
Direction of growth: 1→7→5→8→2→4→1; 3→6→9→3.  Direction of stress is the exact reverse.

A Very thorough Enneagram test: this is a 3-part test.  Long, but incredibly accurate.  This blog also has some links to other personality tests.

Kop, if you're curious about my type, it's a 9.  The one type I have 0 amount of is 8.  I'm not assertive at all like an 8 and tend to be paranoid of them.

This is really interesting. According to the RHETI sampler test, I'm a type 4. and the additional things for type 4 even sound a lot like me!  I also read the type 4 for the instinctual variants test website, and it also sounds like me, it's almost creepy.

On RHETI, Types 1, 3, 5, and 6 all tied for highest (value of 6 on each). The descriptions for all four fit me too. Got a zero in Type 2.

I'm a bit confused as what my main type is though, since the 4 of them tied for highest...

I'm working on the second test you linked to and I'm kind of lost on part 2. A lot of the statements start off as "yes, this is so me" but then take a nasty turn that I can't agree with at all and that's not how I'd interpret the first part of the statement. Or the other way around, I start out thinking "nope, not at all", but then the second part applies. What should I do here? Go for the first or final thought?

I can never decide whether I like this type or not.

Yeah at a side I'm very proud of works I've done, with looking at how others',
at the same time I wonder if anyone really annoyed or just treat me as a silly guy.
If I know there is, I would be very sad.

On the other side I hate to be ignored when I want to draw a bit attention (only),
but the personality type of isolation fì'u längu.
In this case you can't see the pain I get,
I just want to but also not tend to express my feelings properly.
I especially feel this when I've made a reply, and later on people just still replying to their friends..

5, I think. I don't like this one though, it isn't anywhere near as good a description as MBTI.

I recall you tested as INTP.  It's not uncommon for introverted thinking types like us (I'm ISTP) to be a type 5, and I'm on the fence between a 5 and a 9.  Untimately, 9 is chosen because I grow to be an achiever ( 9→3 ), not a leader ( 5→8 ).

Personally, I prefer both Enneagram and MBTI.  They are meant to complement one another, and besides, you can't exactly tell one's MBTI from the results of an Enneagram test or vice versa.

I've noticed 4s and 5s, which are withdrawn types, are the 2 most common types amid the internet (2s and 3s are the least common).

Also, the RHETI can result in ties because it's not too refined (accurate, but not precise).

Looks like you're a type 3, but 7 is next in your tritype, and very close, too.  If 8 is the highest of your 8, 9, and 1, then you're "triple assertive"

Sounds good, after all, 9s are the "crown of the Enneagram," and tend to be all-understanding of the other 8 types.

Your tritype could be either 2w1, 9w1, 6w5, or 4w5, 9w1, 6w5.  Either way, I'm amazed that you scored a 0 in Type 8.  Oe ke 'efu nì'awtu nulkrr *meyam*

I'm also amused at the number of 9s here.  Maybe pieces of AVATAR's message have a 9-ish flavor to them.  I wonder if Cameron's a 9w1 as well.

The first time I took the RHETI test, I tied between a type 6 and a type 4, but I just went with 4, becuase it sounds more like me.

I decided to take it a second time and just got 4.

According to the instinctual variants test, I have balanced wings.

Looks like you're a type 3, but 7 is next in your tritype, and very close, too.  If 8 is the highest of your 8, 9, and 1, then you're "triple assertive"

I don't remember which was next, wish I did, but it wasn't 9 anyway. Oh and I love those mean descriptions of the types

Tse, after a little investigation at ToS, I've found a clear correalation between the Enneagram and AVATAR.  Although the data is light at ToS, it has confirmed my notion that Type 9 is definitely associated with AVATAR

I recall you posting something like this at ToS.  The reason I didn't inqure MBTI at ToS (or any other AVATAR forum for that matter) is because I don't suspect a clear correalation between MBTI and the messages that this movie brings.  Even here, although INFJ typed the highest, others, such as ENTJ and INTJ, typed quite high as well.  However, nothing typed as high as Enneatype 9.
