Here is a photo of a Flying Flea in Flight, do you guys see why I'm painting mine like an Ikran?? It is interesting that the little prehistoric precursor to modern birds had the SAME wing plan form, Henri Mignet just had to Re-invent it in 1934.

And this is Russian experemental ground attack aircraft. 1936-38.

Niri Te

 Ma Kamean,
Thanks for the photos and Drawing. I can't read Russian, it kind of looks the way that the Polikarpov fighters looked, what was it's name, and which design beaureau built it?
I like the percentage of vertical and horizontal separation, in relation to the main wing chord, as well as the size of the horizontal stabilizer that is large enough to be a secondary wing.

 Irayo, ma Kanean,
I have been looking at ALL the different designs, some of them are pretty interesting.

Friend of mine built himself a Rutan Variviggen and offered to fly me around in it.  I declined.  Not sure their safety record is that stellar.

My favorite aircraft is the P-47.

I'd love to pilot this bird!

Early attempts at avian flight.

I think the P-38 and the B-17 are my favorite aircraft.

P-38

P-61 Black Widow. My grandfather was a pilot of these

B-17. We lost a LOT of fly-boys in this aircraft for the cause of liberty and freedom. I think this is why for me this plane is so special.

probably the most well known Russian dive bomber was il-2 - it actually carried enough armor to protect vital parts from 12.7mm bullets head on and up to 20mm at less favorable angles.
there are also a series of fighter planes, and it's hard to single out one due to very fast iterations. Though up to 1943 it was hard to fight against German designs.
Where is my NDD fix?

Kamean

IL-2, in fact, not dive-bomber, a real dive bombers are Pe-2 and Tu-2.

I split this out for you guys so you can go on discussing planes, have fun!

Thanks, ma Nyx.  I think maybe we're done.....until Niri Te posts a pic of her newly painted 'ikran'!!  Which of course will be blue and it will be named Seze Pxey! (Just kidding, ma Niri Te - really!!   ;D  )

No, actually it will be painted like Neytiri's "Seze", but will be named "Veger" from the Star Trek film. The reason is that I was VERY active on a yahoo discussion group concerning the Flying Fleas. One of the members of the group was Dr, Axel Darling, who was in charge of the Voyager space shots. He and I got into many a discussion on both the group, and on the telephone about things Astronomical. One day on the phone he told me that he would like to buy a particular HM293 Flying Flea that I had found out about, but didn't have the money for, so I told the group about. He said that if I was willing to go to Tennessee to pick it up, and bring it back to Texas, and go through it to get it right, then I could treat it as mine, until he came from California to pick it up.
I agreed, and he sent me the money to pay for the plane, and the gas money to fetch it and bring it back.
After getting to know him, I found out what he did at JPL, and told him that I was going to name the plane "Veger" after the Voyager spacecraft in the movie.
A year later, he let everyone know that he had brain Cancer, and eight months later, he died. I will always regret not being able to meet him in the flesh.

WOW, what a great story and with such a sad ending.  :(   Personally, FWIW, I have no doubt that he will be flying with you and enjoying the trip.  So THIS is the Flying Flea you are painting!  May your flights in her be blessed and safe.

Nice :)

I read something somewhere, I can't remember the exact words now, about how something that performs its f unction well tends to be aesthetically pleasing - I think aeroplanes are an excellent example of that, as well as the multitude of approaches showing something about how people approach problems from their perspective.

Always sad when that happens.
