Portia is a really good example of a lot of the issues that cognitive science has tried to address with respect to humans

e.g. they can go seriously out of their way to stalk prey and lose sight of it altogether for hours

compare to the implementation of backtracking in Simon and Newell's General Problem Solver for missionaries & cannibals and the like

this is a non-trivial ability
"Uhh ... we should put it out something that it likes and then when it comes to get it we can kill it."
"Oh yeah heh heh ... cool ... um heh ... what do flies like?"
"Uhh ... they like garbage and crap."
"Oh yeah yeah heh heh ... flies are pretty cool sometimes, yeah eh heh heh."
