A very interesting item showed up in a science newsletter I get today. It turns out that samples of material from suspected Sasquatch creatures yielded a big surprise-- they were legitimate!

The samples showed they had the mitochondrial DNA of a human, and the nuclesr DNA of a human-primate cross. But just what primate, scientists are not sure. They ruled out Neanderthal, one of the more likely candidates. The similar mitochondrial DNA also suggests that this cross happened relatively recently.

This raises huge implications for the identification and protection of this species, which could in some ways be considered 'Native American'. In any case, this is an unfolding story to watch!

A late, good friend friend of mine, Wayne Hosek, got me interested in Sasquatch, and all the good science hinting at its existence. Its very sad that he did not live long enough to see his suspicions validated (he died about this time last year, from a particularly aggressive strain of prostate cancer). But one thing I did learn from him is that I live not far from prime Sasquatch country-- the forests of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

That's really interesting! I had have to find a German translation to understood this article.
I'm asking who is the unknown species? Very exciting!

Sounds provocative, in a good way.  I wonder why you'd find them primarily here rather than in South America or Europe?  Are there supposed sightings elsewhere?
