A 400 meters huge asteroid passing Earth on november 9th 2011 with only 239,000 km. It will be the largest passing so near. The asteroid may be visible in high-end binoculars with an objective lens of 70mm or larger.

the name of asteroid is 2005 YU55

http://www.irishweatheronline.com/news/space/asteroids/400-metre-asteroid-flyby-due-in-early-november/32083.html

but relax, this asteroid does not pose any threat on Earth

comet Elenin dead, NASA says
« Reply #21 on: October 26, 2011, 02:57:27 pm »
NASA has confirmed that comet Elenin is "dead". The only thing who exist of Elenin is dust. nothing else, Elenin didn't survived the trip through the solar system, probably not after that solar storm who hit it.

The wimpy comet Elenin, which vaulted into the public spotlight as a so-called harbinger of doom, has met its own demise, and its remains won't be back for 12,000 years, NASA scientists say.

The comet made a swing through the inner solar system in recent months, coming closest to Earth on Oct. 16, but by that time all that was left were crumbs. The fate of comet Elenin, it seems, was sealed in September during its closest approach to the sun.

"Elenin did as new comets passing close by the sun do about two percent of the time: It broke apart," said Don Yeomans of NASA's Near-Earth Object Program Office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., in a statement Monday (Oct. 25). "Elenin's remnants will also act as other broken-up comets act. They will trail along in a debris cloud that will follow a well-understood path out of the inner solar system. After that, we won't see the scraps of comet Elenin around these parts for almost 12 millennia."

Russia Launched Spacecraft to Grab Pieces of Mars' Moon Phobos:

Russia launched a spacecraft toward the Martian moon Phobos today (November 8 ), initiating the nation's first deep-space mission since the mid-1990s.

The unmanned Phobos-Grunt probe blasted off from Kazakhstan's Baikonur Cosmodrome at 3:16 p.m. EST Tuesday (2016 GMT; 2:16 a.m. local time Wednesday). Its main task is to pluck dirt samples from Phobos ("grunt" means "soil" in Russian) and return them to Earth, where scientists are hoping to learn more about the early days of Mars and the solar system.

The $163 million mission could help bring Russian planetary exploration back to prominence after a decades-long dry spell marked by funding woes and high-profile failures.

"The major outcome is that Russia might establish its credibility again," Roald Sagdeev, former director of the Space Research Institute (IKI) in Moscow, told the journal nature. "It would open the door for major international missions."

I've heard today from our teacher on school that life on Earth was near extinction yesterday by a comet. A comet travelled 500,000 km/h or 310,065 mph between the sun and the moon.

500,000 km/h or 310,685 mph !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was said that It was close Earth. between the sun and the moon will say around 74 million km, because the distance from Moon to the Sun is around 149 million km

But I don't know if it happened something with the comet
