And why?

Alive: probably Brian Cox (coz he's so damned enthusiastic), possibly Richard Dawkins (because he [expletive deleted]'s on creationists, the religious and all the other wingnuts).

Dead: probably Albert Einstein (because he was a genius and loads or people wrongly thinks he was religious), possibly Isaac Asimov (coz he's plain awesome)

Hmm too many good choices in real life but we included movies I'd say Tony stark (iron man) because he's a brilliant scientist and business man and creates amazing stuff by himself

Human No More

Alive: Richard Dawkins
Dead: Albert Einstein (yeah, I expect a lot of people to say that), or possibly Charles Darwin or Nikola Tesla

Honest question here because I don't know but isn't Tesla regarded as somewhat of a flake because of some of his claims about Sumerians or some such having rocketships? Or am I thinking of someone else?

EDIT: My bad ... I did a bit of surfing and it was a guy called Sitchin (a very late apology to Tesla)

Not quite...it's Albert Einstein.

He's one of my favorites as well. :)

definitely Einstein!! He was the one to think about space-time and opened the way to modern science (plus he looks funny with his messed up hair).

I also consider Archimedes funny (and a little crazy) for running naked in the streets shouting "Eureka!" ;D

Perhaps because Newtonian physics have been superseded by relativistic? OK, I grant you that that's almost irrelevant at the usual (earthbound) physics levels but even at planetary distances Newtonian physics doesn't work any more.

It's an excellent approximation at the scale humans operate at. Voyager 2 was sent to Neptune using Newtonian physics.
