So Folks, it seems that the final organized schedule for 09 July has shaped up between us and the Museum and Paul enough to announce it fully and for people who want to get involved with the last part to start practicing.

9:45 AM:
Rendezvous outside the Museum main entrance for a group photo. Don't be late!!
10:00 AM:
Museum opens and we all head in
10:00~11:30 AM:
See all there is to see around the Museum exhibits
11:30 AM~1:00 PM:
 Lunch in the Blue Lounge
1:00PM~2:00 PM:
Other activities by the Education Dept. (drumming, badge-making...)
2:00PM~4:00 PM:
Panel on The Na'vi Language. Brooks Peck & Paul Frommer. In the EMP's JBL Theater.
4:00 PM:
 Closing group photo.

You won't be forced to show up at lunch at any specific time. Your lunchbox will be there with your name on it. Please go make your selection in that topic RIGHT NOW if you haven't done that yet and I'll be posting "How to PayPal Prrton for Lunch" info soon about paying for what you've pledged.

The panel deserves some more explanation.

Brooks Peck, who is the curator of the Avatar exhibit at the SF Museum will be interviewing Paul on stage in the JBL Theater (which seats roughly 200 people) beginning at 1:00 PM. This part of the day will be open to the general public (anyone who has been admitted to the EMP/SF Museum on that Saturday). Those structured questions will last for roughly 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. After the more structured part, Brooks will open the floor to BILINGUAL Q&A in Na'vi and English. It will basically work like this:

Note: The overview video was not originally designed for YouTube, so you'll probably need to watch it at 720p or so to be able to read all the small text and if it goes by too fast for you, hit pause.

In the video you see someone as the Interpreter. I, Prrton, will be taking on that role. However, everyone in the audience has the chance to ask questions in Na'vi. I will interpret into English and Paul and/or Brooks will answer in English only.

It's very important to Paul that this be well organized and not fraught with glitches or hiccoughs, so if you want to ask a question in Na'vi, even if your Na'vi is not where you'd like it to be, you have over a month to get ready!

Step one: Come up with one or more questions for Paul & or Brooks and PM them to me. I will double-check the questions for Paul with him. He has reserved the right of veto, which I wholly endorse. I think the Q&A, which will last up to 45 minutes, will be most interesting for everyone there if the questions are things that he can enjoy answering. Here is a sample list which he has already approved.

 - Lolen tengkrr a ayvurtuhu tskxekeng sarmi a pesìlenìl heykangham frato?
 - What was the funniest thing that happened while you were training the actors in Na'vi?

 - Vewng tì'usongit lì'fyayä tengkrr txana krr fterem mìkam hama rel haya pumsì a fì'uri ngaru peu lu ngäzìk frato?
 - What is the hardest thing about dealing with the language now that there is a long hiatus between films?

 - Furia 'ongokx 'erong nìtut lìfyaolo' leNa'vi, eltur ngeyä tìtxen si frato a 'u fu pum a hek frato lu 'upe?
 - What is the most interesting or curious thing to you about the emergence of a Na'vi language fan community?

 - Var ngivop lì'fyati a fì'uri pehapxì sunu ngaru frato?
 - What is your favorite part of continuing to create the language?

These are up for grabs, by the way and if you want to tweak the Na'vi, that's fine as long as it's grammatical. Paul is NOT going to edit or correct the Na'vi. The questions should be grammatically constructed based on the general combined wisdom of our community. You are not 100% required to let me know what you intend to ask in advance. It is possible (although very unlikely) that in an audience of up to 200 people, there could be folks there who are not members of this community who want to ask a question in Na'vi and who are perfectly capable of doing so. They are welcome of course. BUT. This is what will happen (on camera*) if I as the interpreter don't understand what you are asking.

Prrton: Ngaytxoa. Rutxe liveyn nìk'ong tsalì'fyavit a maw fwa san ___________
Ngal keratsan pivawm teri fwa ___________, slä tsaria ftxey tsolun
tslivam oe nìlaw fuke, ke 'efu ye.
Nga: <Tsaw latem ìlä fwa ftxey tslolam ngal fuke ulte ftxey tsun 'iveyng nìltsan pxìye'rìn nìteng.>

Regardless of what I say/ask back to you, it will all be in Na'vi.

If there is an awkward stall I will request in Na'vi that you ask your question again in English due to my incompetence. (Oeru txoa livu. Taweyka oel wätx futa tslam lì'upamit ngeyä nìhawng, ätxäle suyi tsnì liveyn pivawm nì'Ìnglìsì.)

The whole purpose of doing this is to expose the whole audience to spoken Na'vi (that they then have an opportunity to understand swiftly thereafter through interpretation), so the whole thing can go realistically, as opposed to *perfectly* in some thoroughly scripted manner, but Paul will be most comfortable if we don't miss a beat. The safest way for that to happen is for me to know in advance which question or questions you intend to ask. As long as I know in advance what you're asking, I promise to do my part to get the interpretation of the question correct. I'm very confident that if we plan a bit, it will all go flawlessly and be lots of fun.

If you're feeling vrrtep-ish and want to surprise me, I promise to surprise you back, nìNa'vi. But that is not what will make Paul most happy.

So Step 2 is: Make sure Prrton knows which question(s) are on your list.

Step 3: If you need to practice your pronunciation or speaking rhythm, find a language partner to rehearse with over Skype or TeamSpeak or similar. Now excepting volunteers to mentor our more junior speakers. Please volunteer by replying to this topic or PM MRRÌA TUNVRRTEP who is organizing volunteers (HERE).

Step 4: Make sure Prrton can match your face to your name. I am happy to set up a time to meet you briefly over Skype even before Seattle if that's helpful.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to shine. Both Paul and the folks at the Museum are very excited about this aspect of the panel so I hope we'll have TONS of questions from all of you in Na'vi for Paul and Brooks.

Please ask and comment away below.

I'm very happy to translate your question into Na'vi for you or help you with it if you've taken a stab at writing it in Na'vi but are not completely confident about it. BUT, I'll ask you to find someone else to be your verbal practice partner because I'll be traveling for work and otherwise quite busy in the interim. If you're nervous about your question, you can remind me of it at the Museum that morning or over lunch.

So, who is going to ask a question or questions in Na'vi on the 9th of July?

PS: DISCLAIMER! Keep in mind that it will likely be Brooks who is calling on people in the audience. Sadly, there is a chance that you'll prepare a question and not actually have a chance to answer it. However, because they are allowing 45 minutes (almost half of the panel) for this Q&A, I'm hopeful that that won't happen.

We can do this too, or if you still have the picture on the card I sent you to give to Paul last October before 'Awvea Ultxa Ayharyuä, I haven't changed much since then

Prrton,
I would happily volunteer to take any still shots that may be wanted.  I'm a photographer.
Just let me know so I can bring the correct equipment.

I think that would be GREAT if you want to be the official still photographer. I suggest that you coordinate with Txur'Itan. He will be shooting some video and certain types of stills might be very useful to him.

I also am a videographer so I might be of use in that regard, but my church owns the camera I use, so I would have to convince them to let me take it for a few days.

I'd also be happy to play photographer for the lunch.  But for the Panel, I think I'll use film.  I get a better result with 1000 speed film than with the digital camera.

Prrton, you might want to start a volunteer thread, to cover all the different volunteer tasks.

Before returning to topic, I can offer still and video photography (don't have own modern video camera, though - all my stuff is antique), as well as setup, clean-up or just about anything else.

There is no huge rush on the questions, but sooner is better than later, especially if you want DIBS on some question that is particularly important to you.

HRH I wouldn't know what to ask or how to ask it in Na'vi.  I'm really bad with the language.  I think all my language learning skills ended right after I was fluent in French in High School.  Although I can still speak French when I'm pissed.  HRH
