On July 9th, LearnNavi is having a meet-up in Seattle, in celebration of the Science Fiction Museum's AVATAR exhibit. [ Press release ]

Paul Frommer has just confirmed his attendance for the July 9th meetup. From 10:00 AM through 2:00 PM-ish, he's happy to be at the Museum with everyone else and for that to involve a group meeting of our community members. If that can't happen at the Museum, it will likely be some place close by that is free or as inexpensive as possible.

The Poll:
How much are you personally willing to contribute towards procuring a meeting space in the EMP/Science Fiction Museum or nearby area on 09 July for a group meeting including Karyu Pawl? This will be in addition to paying to enter the museum & see the Avatar exhibit. Participation will be limited to our group (unless the museum agrees to give us the room free of charge (still an open question)).

Note: You should only vote in this poll if you are confident that you WILL be attending the 09 July Meetup in Seattle.

A huge THANK YOU to Prrton, who has been in direct contact with Paul and has taken a leading role in the organization of his attendance!

Separately, various other clans (Tree of Souls, Avatar-Forums, etc) are also meeting on June 4th, the opening day. [ More info ]

Oh wow!  That is just brilliant!  Well done Prrton for all the hard effort that must have been put into to make Paul Frommer's attendance a reality.  Unfortunately I will not be able to come over again from the UK for the 9th July meet up, but I really am pleased for you all. 8)

What could be more fitting than the have the aysmukan sì aysmuke from LearnNa'vi meet with the creator of the Na'vi Language. :D

Eyway ngahu,

Alan

Txura Rolyu

time for me to actually start learning the language so I can benefit from his teaching.

Ma Alan, Fraposì,

Ke pxan. I've received far more credit than I deserve. I've only kept K. Pawl informed of the plans as they have evolved here. He's the one traveling from LA to Seattle using his own resources (magnanimously in my opinion).

And please be aware that he is not "playing favorites" in any way by selecting the July 9th date. He has previous commitments on the East Coast the weekend of the exhibit's opening. His being there then is not a viable option.

I wish everyone who is participating on the 4th of June a wonderful visit!

AketuanNavi

wow! You lucky July 9th group!  ;)

It is truly awesome Paul Frommer will be there with you guys...  :)

Unfortunately I won't be able to join your group, but have fun!!  :D

Zefanaya

I will so be there. This is the best thing ever, and it could only happen with a community as awesome as ours. If you need help setting up or getting things organized, just PM me. I've blocked off a week prior and three days after. This is actually perfect, I had booked vacation the week of this event. So yeah, if you need help with anything (chairs, manual labor, tech) I'm free. How shall we contribute our money (in my case $50)?

The offer of $50 is very generous. That's still all TBD, but we'll figure it out based on the size of the group and what the final charges might come to (which is all still %100 up in the air).

Is PayPal a good option for people in general?

Not one bit of it matey.  Far from it.  I am so pleased that he will be coming when most of the LearnNa'vi clan will be there.  It should not be any other way.  I really am pleased for everyone who will be going on 9th July. :)

Hey, you'll have to gather up all you Na'vi language questions together and forward them to him so he will be able to discuss them with you when you are all there...a lecture from the creator of the Na'vi language.  BILLIANT!

Just a shame I can't make the 9th July.  Afraid my Ikran will still be recovering from the journey back to the UK.   ;D

One possible meeting place is KCTS TV, which is right next door to the EMP/Sci-Fi museum. Many public TV stations have a meeting space that can be used, often at a low rate. The key will be getting an Avatar/Na`vi fan at the station fired up about the idea, if there is one there. I can look into this if you want.

Not a bad idea. Would be funny if they recorded it. Also, do you know Eltu Lefnap Maktao? I've been trying to get a hold of him, to see if he know's about this or not. I haven't seen him on in a while either.

(1) It think this is a GREAT idea and I never would have thought of it. Do you think you could poke around for information without committing to booking it yet? Here are the questions/parameters to ask them (based on current info/assumptions):

  - Room to accommodate 20~40 people. It seems unlikely to me at this point that we'll grow to over 40, but, of course, it's still early.
  - Is the room preconfigured in some way, or do we need to send people there ahead of time to set it up? How far ahead?
  - Do they have chairs for 40?
     - Is the room large enough to accommodate those chairs in a large circle or is a "classroom" layout required to fit them all?
  - Core availability from roughly 11:30 until 2:30~3:00 PM that Saturday
  - Will they allow us to bring cameras in to document the event?
  - Do they allow food in the room? (Sandwiches/drinks, etc. Not required, but the option might help us with time planning)
  - Does the room have wi-fi that we could use? (Not required, of course, but nice to have)
  - Cost?

These are the same questions that I intend to investigate with the Museum directly.

(2) He was on yesterday. You can PM HIM.

The thing is, I have PM'ed him. We know each other out of the forums, but I don't have his phone number. Anyway not important. Were you asking me to look up the information on the KCTS or Ayfalulukanä?

I was intending to address 'Eylan Ayfalulukanä on that point. That's his work and world so I figured he'd have the best inroads to contacting the ideal individual(s) at KCTS. However, if you have personal connections at the station, why don't you ping him and coordinate that together?

I don't have connections to KCTS or any of the networks, but I like to make them. My connections are in things like local businesses and people from tech websites. I'm a journalist, I focus on mobile technology news. Normally my Sig has links to my sites in it. I can talk to him and see what's going on. Being the owner of a site is nice, I can take time off when I need it.

Tirey,
You can go ahead and start because 1.) You are local, and 2.) It sounds like this is your kind of gig. You can use me as a reference-- Tim Stoffel, Assistant Chief Engineer at KNPB in Reno. I will be at KCTS at some point during the time I am there to have a chat with their engineering and production folks, anyway.
