Txantsan... I really wish I could have come... :(

Some of those photos look amazing... not just of the exhibit, but of people who Avatar brought together, being there and sharing an experience...

I made this promise on ToS, but here it is again: I will be at the next one, no matter what it takes :)

Hey everyone, I'm the female avatar that's in a lot of these pictures. It was really cool meeting people from Learn Na'vi and Tree of Souls today! The exhibit was cool too, but it was super crowded since we got there when it opened. Tomorrow it should be emptier and I'll be able to spend more time at each display.

Welcome indeed!

There will most definitely be a next one! Annual Avatar meet-ups? Yes please.

I dumped the contents of my camera into a new gallery without much discretion: http://forum.learnnavi.org/mgallery/?sa=album;id=190
The quality doesn't quite compare to Zeph and MikkoWilson's photos though...

Thanks for the gallery Payoang!

I posted this on ToS so I'll port it here for everyone!  :)

OK...so the whole weekend was AMAZING! (I'll keep my thoughts about it for a post somewhere else)

Anyway, here is the plan as was decided by the group discussion:

1. AvatarCon is not a feasible option due to several factors. (turnout, setup, ect...) However, based off of future meetups and Avatar 2 numbers, the plan is to attempt something later down the road.

2. We ARE planning on doing a similar meetup next year. We are waiting from input from the July 9th meetup to make any plans of dates. The general thought though is to plan on late-June to July. (Due to school/weather/exhibit)

3. We ARE planning on merging both the June 4th group and the July 9th group for next year which is right now at 40+ people.

4. The IKRAN NEWSLETTER will still be delivering vital information about the July 9th meetup and then about next years meetup. The will also be a "central hub" or website (currently being worked on) to have all of the information in one place.

5. The SCIENCE FICTION MUSEUM was thrilled to have us visit and overall we made a great impression and have now established a two-way dialog. I am currently in contact with the PR person at the SFM, and am working on figuring things out for the next event.

So to sum it up...there will most likely be a MEETUP not convention in 2011, probably in late-June/July and maybe in Seattle. We are currently working on plans and will post info when it is known.

I hope I get to see the friends from this last weekend and meet everyone new, next year!

Irayo for sharing your photos Payoang.  I see you caught me a few times.  Is it ok for me to download a few to keep?  I still have to sort out my piccies, which I will upload onto Mikko's gallery and then turn my hand to the video...

So I guess you guy's don't use Twitter. I have started using it more and more (@zefanaya) over that past few months. Any how, I remember that I follow Laz Alonso (Tsu'tey). I also remember he took pictures of the audience at the Actors Experience Pannel, I scrolled through his Twitter feed till I hit June 4. Here they are http://lockerz.com/s/107739711

Not the best quality, but still cool. Thanks internet for helping me relive some of the best time's of my life.

He looked me in the eye when he took this pic. Just wish he wasn't using a Blackberry, the camera's on those things suck.

His twitter feed is funny too.

Oh and this happened one day prior to us being there.

Yep that's James Cameron in the very room I walked through one day later.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to add this information, or where else I should post it. If there's somewhere better, please let me know.
Anyway, here are my notes on language in the Avatar museum exhibit:

Na'vi language at the Avatar Exhibit

There is a station where you can hear a few words of Na'vi alongside their English translations. There are 12 buttons with icons, English words, and Na'vi words; when pressed, you hear Frommer speak Na'vi at conversational speed, then English, then the Na'vi word or phrase a little slower and more carefully. The terms are:
human (tawtute), hello (kaltxì), I'm sorry (oeru txoa livu), thank you (irayo), I love you (nga yawne lu oer), you're standing on my tail! (oeri nga kllkxem sìn kxetse!), viperwolf (nantang), thanator (palulukan), direhorse (pa'li), Pandora (eywa'eveng), banshee (ikran), and bow & arrow (tsko swizaw). (The last appears as one phrase on the sign, but the clip is "tsko. bow. tsko.    swizaw. arrow. swizaw.")
It's weird for me to see tawtute translated as human, since I always think of it as skyperson. I did like that the icon for kaltxì is a 4-fingered hand waving, not 5.

There's a video about the Na'vi language; nothing seemed too new, but there were some shots of language sheets I hadn't seen before. Here are my notes: (yes, I sat there with a notebook and skipped back and forth through the video to get stuff down.)
--James Cameron provided about 30 words to get Frommer started.
--It became an "exercise in translation" once Frommer had the basics put together.
--They show the same page of Jake's Na'vi dialog we've seen before.
--They show a very similar page for Tsu'tey, with breakdown of meaning and pronounciation, but the only line visible in the clip is his first one from the film: Fayvrrtep fìtsenge lu kxanì!
--Speaking of Tsu'tey, Laz Alonzo was able to recite a couple of lines (from that first scene), but then laughed and said he couldn't remember what they meant, but that they were his favorite.
--We see a page of "Na'vi Dialect Notes," which I hadn't seen before, giving instructions on how to pronounce English with a Na'vi accent. They include: the J sound in judge or Jake should be approximated DZH; t k and p are ejective in final position but softened internally; and something else about the ejective consonants, if I recall. The examples were all of English words with the desired pronounciations.
--Zoë Saldana said that it was easy for her to learn Na'vi, especially when she realized that the vowels were very like Spanish vowels, but that she struggled speaking English with a Na'vi accent.
--She also said that she asked James Cameron for a word her character could call Sam's character, and they went to Frommer. He asked them "like, fool?" and James said, "no, like idiot or moron" and so Frommer said "oh, skxawng!" Zoë said that everyone on set picked up that word to describe each other.
--CCH Pounder was interviewed as well, and described the feel of the language and the different sounds it has (clicks and pops, she said).

There was a video about the music of the film, but it didn't talk about the language in the big choral pieces the way I hoped. The subtitles captioned it as "tribal vocals", for whatever that's worth.

The EMP has a space for school-group classes and activities that's not always open, but they had some activities going on during opening day. There are signs on the walls giving simple words in a bunch of languages (hello, thank you, goodbye, that kind of thing) and I did a real double-take when I realized that among English, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and others was Na'vi as well.

That's all I can think of right now; you'll get to see for yourselves pretty soon! :D

Thank you very much for that! I was hoping someone would post something like that for people like me who were unfortunately not able to attend. :D

I was SO relieved when I heard it was Paul doing the speaking and that it was REAL words not the BS from the ASG. Of course...that's probably because Paul was doing the speaking lawlz.
