Okay, so the sentence I need for a basis is

My cat want to be a dog

Going through the [what I hope are] proper steps, it would end up:

Palulukan oeyä new futa livu nantang.

So, I currently have a small idea of how this works, so it this correct?

If you want to use the word futa, you also must use palulukan in agentive case - palulukanìl:

Palulukanìl oeyä new futa livu nantang.

Or if you don't use agentive, you don't need futa here and can say just

 Palulukan oeyä new livu nantang.

Both sentences mean My "cat" wants to be a "dog" :)

Yeah, this is one of those things that just confuses me. Thanks.  ;)

I agree
palulukan oeyä new futa livu nantang sounds a little weird because it is like saying that the "cat" wants that to be a "dog".

if it helps you, you could think of it as
"the "cat" wants that she were a "dog"

It actually means the same thing as the version without futa. Think of it like this: "the cat wants that" where that = "to be a dog", or "the cat wants this to-be-a-dog-thing" *. Futa on its own isn't the object, it points at the clause which is. Make sense?

I like the ( ) explanation.

Palulukanìl oeyä new futa livu nantang =  Palulukanìl oeyä new ( livu nantang ) -it
Please tell me if you see mistakes in a Na'vi post of mine. It's the only way I'll learn. :P

I like the ( ) explanation.

Palulukanìl oeyä new futa livu nantang =  Palulukanìl oeyä new ( livu nantang ) -it

One of the best ways to explain futa, fwa, furia, etc. TMO.
