‘fall in love with’ & ‘cause to love’
« on: January 03, 2011, 12:24:18 am »
Ma frapo,

watching Uniltìrantokx again the other day I came across this sentence (‘I fell in love with the forest’ etc.) and wondered in general how to translate that into Na’vi. Do you think there will be an idiom as in English to convey that meaning?
What about the circumlocution ‘I was caused to love the forest’ … is ‹eyk› permitted on lu to form something like *fkol na’rìng yawne leyku oer ???

I'd go for something like "Oeru na'rìng slolu yawne".

Ooh, i like this.  Short, elegant, and retains the not-English-ness of the way yawne is used in Na'vi  :)

  • Translate the meaning, not the words!

I quite like this, too, the use of the perfective is an especially nice touch.

Alright, thank you all for your input … slu seems like a great circumlocution – didn’t think of that
