Alright. I think I have a good hold on this, after having spent a few weeks reading and studying in my spare time. These translated song lyrics represent my first major foray into translating whole sentences and ideas into Na'vi, so bear with me as I probably made a ton of mistakes.

The song is "Smoke and Shadows" by an 80s band called Vain. I chose it mostly because it had easier words and few concepts that weren't in Na'vi. The original lyrics are in the description text. Note that my result wasn't intended to be sung.

I know it's a lot (review a line or the whole thing, whatever ;) ), but any corrections/suggestions/explanations are most welcome. ;D

I would say "they," referring to nightmares, is more non-person...

asyen would mean "the last night" as in "the final night (in a series)".
Quotetsalsungay oel ke tok tsatsengit.
tok is used instead of lu for "to be" used to describe location: "to be at".

I'm not sure about "to lie", but I can't think of anything better at the moment.

Tsun livu sìltsan, ngian...

What's wrong with "tsa'u" instead of "tsaw"?

'Oma Tirea

Tam.

NB, it is probably better to use "tsa'u" instead of "tsaw" because of what both "tsaw" and "taw" lenit to.

Oe irayo seiyi nìtxan mengaru!

Most of those corrections make plenty of sense. Plus I learned some things (there's a specific word for last night? heh 8) )

The one thing I'm still confused about is the use of futa. When and why does one use that as opposed to something else?

Payä Tìrol

Futa is a contraction of fì'ut a, or "this thing(ACC) which is".
It's basically used to make a clause become the transitive object of the sentence's main verb.

For example:
Quote
Fpìrmìl oel futa aynga natsew tsive'a fi'ut.
I was just thinking this-thing-which-is: {you might want to see this}.

Ahh, now that makes sense.
