Sentences with a truckload of information
« on: January 29, 2017, 07:52:09 am »
During his session TA gave quite a long sentence. I decided to extend the sentence and make the biggest relative clause of the language.
Maybe we could have fun making ridiculously large sentences to practise our Na'vi grammar.

Here we go:

Tsala ngal kawkrr sngelit ke munge wrrpane ulte nìtut zene ätxäle sirvängi ngar oe, steyki oeti fìtxan kuma keng ke tsun tsawteri fpivìl luke luke fwa sngä'i tsngivawvìk mì kam fya'oä sutekip ulte frapol ke tslam kemit a seri a fì'ul 'eykefu ngati ngeyn a fì'uri oe irayo ke seiyi ngaru.

Yeah, that comes from this thread back in the day, hm? ;)

It is interesting. I wonder how applicable it is in an actual conversation. It feels almost like a legal text to me :P So much information stuffed into one sentence that neither the speaker nor the listener can follow :P

But yeah, you can do a lot with relative clauses :D

Tsala ngal kawkrr sngelit ke munge wrrpane ulte nìtut zene ätxäle sirvängi ngar oe, steyki oeti fìtxan kuma keng ke tsun tsawteri fpivìl luke luke fwa sngä'i tsngivawvìk mì kam fya'oä sutekip ulte frapol ke tslam kemit a seri a fì'ul 'eykefu ngati ngeyn a fì'uri oe irayo ke seiyi ngaru.

Wow. This is surely something. :o

The only thing throwing this off is the "luke" two times in a row. I think this may have been either a copypasta fail, typo, or other error. The first luke has no noun, and the second luke pairs with the fwa{} after it. Because of this, the sentence is either missing a noun, or has an extra luke.

What it would look like with only one luke:

This works.

EDIT: Wait. what? I think I did this wrong. Looking at it again, the a fì'uri 'eykefu ngati ngeyn part didn't get parsed out. I missed a pair of {}. How far back would the opening bracket of {} a fì'ul 'eykefu ngati ngeyn go? Yeah, this is legit hard to follow for sure ;D

DOUBLE EDIT: OF COURSE. Staring me in the face the whole time. The original sentence and parsing was correct. Holy ikran. O__o

Vawmie, how long did you spend writing this to ensure this level of correctness? :o

TRIPLE EDIT EDIT: Every time I look at my attempts to parse this sentence, I confuse myself. I can't decide if it's correct or not. I'll go with it is and isn't at the same time. Schrödinger's Sentence or something :-\
