Topical
« on: February 12, 2011, 05:41:42 pm »
The topical is the last remaining hurdle for me.  Not that I've mastered everything, but this one just hurts my head still.  I take my cues here from Wm.Annis, but I've no idea if I've honked this up:

Yawä parmlltxe san Eywari tsawl sleyku sawlapxangrrìl ayngrrti ulte pxorna'lorìl porna'it pxeykor.
Ayutralìl sleyku ayrina'it fnelsneyä fte teya sivi Eywa'evengur sìk.
Fìfya lereiu.

HE said, In regards to Eywa, let big-root-trees grow roots and exploding-seed-plants explode seeds.
Let trees makes seeds of their own kind so as to fill Pandora.  Thus it was!

Three things I noticed (but there are probably other things I missed):

1. Why did you use <arm> in parmiitxe? This speaking concerning creation is( as I see it), a finished act. <alm> might be a better choice.
2. I don't think you can combine fnel and sneyä in the way you did. Maybe you meant fne- which can be prepended to words.
3. Wht did you use Eywa early in the passage and Eywa`eveng later on?

All very good questions.
1. The simple English sentence "He said" would imply just <am> leNa'vi.  Hebrew has only mood, no tense, and it is imperfective (almost throughout Genesis 1) - Na'vi <er>.  I decided to take both and use <arm>.  Retranslating back to English would yield something like, "God was saying" which seems passable.  Knowing the Hebrew is imperfective, what do you think?  I'm honestly not sure.
2. Ah!  So it is.  I guess I should just drop the L
3. This comes back to my whole question about topical.  Am I achieving something along the lines of the three commands being given to Eywa?  I want something close to that, but a bit more amorphous, like "in regards to Eywa" plus almost speaking to Eywa.  Eywa fills her child, the planet, with trees.  The planets grow through her agency, so they're not filling her but Pandora.

Why not use Kifkeyur Eywa'evengä?
Please tell me if you see mistakes in a Na'vi post of mine. It's the only way I'll learn. :P

I think fnelä would be the best here.
