On the topic of dividing by zero...a proof to show that 1=2 relies on such impossible division does exist...

There all sorts of lovely proofs for all sorts of things, like pi=3, 0=1, infinity doesn't exist mathematically etc. and the vast majority involve sneaking a divide by 0 error into there. The 0=1 one starts by assuming a=b and then a few steps later divides by (a-b) IIRC but by hten you've forgotten that a=b.

That's the one I was thinking of. You can prove 1 = any # with it...

Also, I've recently discovered that DOS-based PCs are EXTREMELY susceptible to crashes caused by attempting to perform such division...many old dos apps were apparently not programmed to check divisors prior to dividing, so they hang when they try to carry out the division...

Well the only person that can divide by zero is Chuck Norris

on the subject of Maths, I can prove the 7x13=28

7x13=28

My classmates who was writing a Calculator in Java discovered that Java returned "Infinity+" as result if you tried to divide by zero.

A bit odd since every other language I have used returnes some kind of exception, even PHP gives a fatal error.

Infinity+

Ooh, that's badly wrong. Even if we ignore the fact that it is infinite being wrong, it being positive is very wrong, because 0 is neither non-negative or non-positive the answer (if it could be computed) would be both positive and negative, like the solution to x^2=3.

Actually if you look more closely there are three of them: The first is all the way to the right and the second person down. The next is almost directly center of the picture. The last is two people to the left and two people up from the second.

on the topic of being able to divide by zero... I have a friend who can.

Suck it!

Guys, guys, don't we all know that the only people who could divide by zero successfully are Chuck Norris and Col. Quaritch?

No, he'll just beat the crap out of it until it divides itself.
