LOL

Don't get me started on Wal-Mart. My aunt has worked for them for almost fifteen years, and some of the stories she's told me about what goes on behind the scenes would make your skin crawl.

Personally, my favorite Wal-Mart failure happened about 10 years ago when I lived in Albuquerque, NM. The local Wal-Mart thought that it would be a good idea to store all of their excess watermelons (yes, watermelons) in plastic kiddie pools outside the front of the store. Did I mention it was August? After five or six days of 110 degree heat, the watermelons had fermented into one of the most foul-smelling gooey concoctions I've ever seen. It took them three weeks before enough people from around the neighborhood complaining about the smell made them clean it up. Ayskxawng.

This video is very very much the reality of our economy in a nutshell.  Genius...

I worked for them for 4 months... Things that have been seen can not be unseen. I also advise anybody and everybody to not work for them or shop from them.

They treat their employees like crap too.

I expect WALMART to try.

Everyone hear that a mountain in China was renamed after Avatar? The same thing might happen to WALMART if you know what I mean.

Don't worry, I know what you mean.  I never worked there personally, but a good friend of mine from high school band days worked there, and he hated it.  They tried to convince him NOT to go to college as well.

In addition, I've read a book called "Nickel and Dimed," where a newspaper editor goes and lives her year as a "low-wage" worker.  Her year was divided into three parts, with three different locations across the U.S.  The last, if I remember correctly, was at a Wal-mart in Wisconsin.  I'll bet she didn't put everything into that book, but I read enough to know the atrocities.

And that's why I like to give Wal-mart hell: http://www.facebook.com/search/?q=walmart+kicked+out&init=quick#/group.php?gid=239845734076&ref=search&sid=100000658031046.770119086..1

And I have done quite a few of those things, and one of them repeatedly.

Besides, Target is better anyway if you need to go to a store like that.  Otherwise, the internet works fine.

This is why getting a good education early in your life (highschool+college degree) is important. As well as keeping you skills/knowledge up-to-date your whole life.

Don't let your kids drop out of school! Make them go to college so they can be competative workers! Otherwise they end up looking for teenager jobs like this at 60+.

FAIL

Also, this is why you shouldn't invest your retirements in the stock market, you should be saving them. It keeps you from being subject to economic shift.

This is why it stinks living in a small town. For things i need right away (i.e. no time to wait for shipping) sometimes there is no where else to go. I absolutely hate giving money to wal-mart.

I will probably invest in neither, but rather I would invest n my future.  I don't plan on ever retiring, because what I will be doing will be too much fun.

I would say that if your kids have a structured and well-thought-out plan to be successful after high school without going to college, that's up to them.  However, these days most ideal careers need at least a Masters degree to really support all that one would want to do.  Or a carefully constructed double major/major-minor combination.

And to the investment stuff: it depends on the times, and being stock-savvy and smart about signs.  I remember I had to do a report on the economic recession that we hit, and I read that there were signs of this starting back in 2001!  In addition, seeing the right signs of improvement will help as well.  And NEVER let greed get your better judgement.

EDIT: another thing worth investing in: gold.  Money's value decreases as inflation increases, but gold's value goes up with the inflation.  maybe around 20-30% of your money should go to it.

Anyone seen a movie called "Where the Heart Is"?
The main character gives birth in a Wal-Mart.

That would really suck, huh?
