Reading that, the movie seems to be borderline plagiarism. But I think the MPAA can make an exception.

Of course it's true.

It's also true that Pocahontas sucked, The Last Samurai wasn't all that good, Dances with Wolves dragged on a little bit and didn't pack the action Avatar did, and Ferngully isn't even worth mentioning, and that's just the story, add eye candy, great acting, amazing 3D, and a non-stop thrill ride and you have an amazing movie, I think the simplistic "heard it before" story actually helps it to be easier to audiences.

But, yes, I lol'd too.

Oh man, that was a good one. Yep, the story is an old one. You would think that the greedy bastiges would have gotten the message by now!

Ugh, I'm so sick of people making these comparison. This is a story line far older than film and is one that will continue to be made many times over. We love the idea of exotic people defending their homeland and defeating us and the idea that at least some original imperialists will do the right thing, it helps balance out the guilt!

People who complain about it being a familiar story line have clearly missed the point and are trying way to hard and be pretentious. I'm normally a person who will shun a film to the seventh level of hell for being more special effects than story *cough transformers cough* but this film did everything so well I fell in love and could even forgive the few overly cheesy moments of dialog.

^^ you know what a good idea might be? Imperialistic capitalists who dealt with the natives correctly ie they didn't blow them out of their land and stuff. And they live in harmony. But one imperialistic capitalist still is fighting, and other..stuff.

But I digress. About the comparison, there were so many claims before the release that cameron ripped off old ideas, namely an old novel "Call Me Joe". now that it's made +$1 billion, not many people care about plagiarism. Live and let live.

I don't understand how anyone could claim this movie to be a work of plagiarism. This is a story that's been told countless times over, the only way to make such a claim would be to trace back to the first one-if that was even possible-and sue everyone else who's done something along the same lines.

my point exactly. So the claims remain just that: claims.

Look at this board!  We're all here to learn a fantasy language because we all loved the movie so much.  Preachin to the choir here ^_^

Personally, I'm done trying to defend Avatar's plot against people trying desperately to be unimpressed with it.  At this point I'm just lettin it go and moving over to my little corner to learn the language of pretend giant blue space people.

That being said, I found OP to be rather amusing ^_^

I guess they never knew that there was a story about Pocahontas that predates the Disney movie.

That's a good one. Really close to identical plots.
Is this right? I just write whatever in the signature box?
