Do you play? What's your loadout? How often to you go to events? General Airsoft thread.

I've been airsofting for about 6 years, I lm co leader of Bloodshed Elite Airsoft, the team me and a friend of mine run. We usually host stuff in the summer in the woods in my area and we sometimes have 20 some people out there at once. :P

I currently use an Echo 1 M4 cqb variant with an acog and upgraded internals. I'm proud to say mine is the first gun on the team to have down time and be successfully repaired and put back into action by our team's gearbox tech and not by sending it in for repairs. ;D

My friend has an entry hobby level MP5 and two pistols (well, one pistol. The other is so bad it doesn't count). Being a paintballer myself, I jokingly make fun of him, but as soon as I get money (read: never), I'm thinking about getting a pair of decent P90's and going all Rambo on my inexperienced friends.

The one thing that bothers me about airsoft is that when you're hit, it doesn't leave a mark. It's too much of an honor system for me. I for one would never cheat, but even when I play paintball I see people wipe off the paint before a ref gets there. Drives me insane. And then a lot of people don't count shots that clearly hit them but don't break.

So are people generally honorable in airsoft? Is it a different mentality than paintball?

Oh yeah it's a very different mentality. Most good airsofters are very honest and call any shot even if they hear it hit them and not feel it. On most teams like mine, if you're shot and you don't call it, team member or not, we'll fireteam you, meaning you get a constant stream of fire until you call that shot. ;D

Lol, I love handing out bonus balls to cheaters ;D

The main reason I actually stopped paintball (besides price) is the mentality. They just love showing off their expensive guns and think if they got hit, it's because the other guy cheated.

Yeah, that's one of the two huge reasons I play Airsoft. With Airsoft, you can get a decent gun with decent power and accuracy for around $200, whereas a paintball gun of the same stats can be upwards of a grand. Plus the ammo, you can get a bag of 15k Airsoft rounds or $20, while paintballs are more expensive for less in many cases.

The other reason is that o prefer the tactical realistic side. A good milsim event can get super intense. :P

Damn!! $20 gets you 2000 low end paintballs! It's $50-80 if you want to shoot straight! Paintballs even became a legitimate currency in my household for a while!

I was really impressed by the accuracy of my friends low end MP5. With paintball it's often accuracy by volume, but with my friends gun I can do bursts. Not only do you get more shots for you dollar, but they seem to be more accurate too. Whats the range on a good gun?

Well, it usually depends on what its purpose is. That's the thing about Airsoft is you have multiple operations, like sniping, riflemen, cqb, etc. A good gun is usually very accurate. It also depends on the barrel length, so like my M4 has a shorter barrel talun it was built for cqb, so it's a bit less accurate. But, you don't need insane accuracy if you're on cqb, because it's less distance to your target usually. With the different operations you also have different power, like your average decent sniper rifle can go up to 500fps, while my M4 is only 350, because that's where the cqb class is limited, that's the max a cqb gun can be. An average rifle like an m16 or an M14 can be anywhere between 360 and 450. So, with power comes accuracy. :P plus AS guns have hopup systems which is like rifling on a real gun, it puts spin on your shot so it stays more steady and has more accuracy. :P
