Women's World Cup
« on: July 14, 2011, 03:19:04 pm »
I know its a bit late for this whole shabang and I doubt many people have followed it, but regardless.  Women's World Cup final coming up on Sunday, United States vs Japan.  From the seems of things Japan, although a much smaller group, is much quicker and has an attack about as strong as the United States, but they have a weaker defense, and their goalkeeper tends to have lapses during the game, which could result in a goal that should not be.  The United States on the other hand, is a very large group, but they center around one person in the midfield.  If she is shut down that will make it much harder for the United States to do anything at all.  Their goalkeeper and defense are very strong, and their attack can about match the Japanese, with the exception of the quickness.  Overall I am pulling for the United States, because I am from the country.  In the end, I would not be upset if Japan did win though, because they have outdone all expectations and proven they deserve to be where they are.

Thoughts?

I'm really disappointed Germany didn't make it to the finals, and also that Canada was out so quickly. :(

Unfortunately I didn't follow Japan nor the US, but whoever the winner is, they will surely deserve their victory! :) I'd like to be able to watch that on Sunday. :D

I only watched some of the matches and I was quite surprised. Most of them were really good and seriously I won't say women soccer is not as good as men soccer.

I look forward to the day when a woman plays in a male dominated league.

Yup, they played their hearts out and earned themselves a big V for their country and their team.  I have some thoughts on the game, but some of them just wouldn't be too nice in regards to my own team lol.

Perhaps a slightly biased opinion, but this was a thing of beauty:

I don't want to sound like I'm knocking Japan though. They played very well and deserve the win.

Yeah except for that dive tackle at the end of the game. That tackle that stopped what would have been an American win. Very dirty move by the Japanese player.
