Woot!

lets get this party started!

I'm Bryce H from the yahoo group, uh, so you know :D

I'm going to start off by suggesting a couple ideas for subforums:
(in no order)
Na'vi Basics - for starters, a place where basics would be posted and stickied, simple questions to be answered
Na'vi Intermediate - Grammatical discussion, information discussion, problem solving and speculation
Na'vi Advanced - No other languages but Na'vi allowed!
Movie General Discussion  - for non-language chit-chat
News - anything relating to the website, avatar, or its sequels

Damn, already on a roll.

I am Justin from the Yahoo group.

So no more email?

Irayo eywa!  No more email!

Honestly it was moving too fast for me ... I'd write an e-mail and there'd be 8 messages waiting to be read, all with quoted text and the like. And as I mentioned, I'm a lot more at home with webboards than e-mail groups.

I think my yahoo email even banned me for a few minutes because I was trying to move too quickly to get to all the email discussions :\

Just after I got my tags set up in Gmail too...oh well.

Skxawng

ahaha nice

also it would probably be a good idea, especially for the beginner forum and perhaps the intermediate forum, for it to be required that when one posts in Na'vi, (like a couple sentences or phrases) to have your translation beneath it, so others could check it themselves, or translate your post, then double-check with what the original was saying.

I agree with this ^

(Seeing as I will need lots of help :P)

guitarsniper

we should have a links forum as well, for external resources.

And also a link on the main page of http://www.learnnavi.org/

Unless I am missing it and it is already there.

Payoang

Oh my, and I thought the mailing list was moving quickly. I look away for 2 minutes and then.... lots of great ideas appear!

HawkPidgeon

Hooray! A forum! Fì-ri sìltsan lu. Did I get that right?

That mailing list was just going so fast...

at least here it's easier to read back over logs of conversations than it was on the email group.

I'm Sean B from the email list.

I think the OP's layout for forums makes a lot of sense.

For movie general discussion though... You make that sound like an Off-Topic forum. Is that what you're thinking? If not, I'd recommend one of those for sure.

guitarsniper

it would also be nice to have an introductions thread. i don't know how big this might or might not grow, but it'd be cool to find people to actually speak with, once i have a better grasp of the language.

I agree.

Really, I think we should have an introduction thread in general, just so we can get to know each other better in general.

zombatt

Btw Seabass I do not have forum privileges now that I'm a global mod and whatnot -- had to register this name to post :/

the idea there was for discussion about avatar the movie, its possible sequels and other movie related news. there could also be a 'just chat' forum which could be about anything I suppose, but I think it would be better to keep the subforums somewhat restricted to the learning of Na'vi.

Two little things :
first, would it be useful to have a record here of the mailing discussion ? Some interesting things have been said, and others could appear if we can read them here (and easily)
and second, what about an international part of the forum ? i managed to deal with english, even in linguistic (which i don't know well, only the basics), but having some talks in french (ou other languages) or explanation or translations of the grammar rules would be very helpful.

Brainiac

A) where do those go, exactly? I'm already getting lost on this forum. It's growing too fast :p
which leads me to

B) Perhaps sub-topics might be a good idea. eg: in the 'beginners'-subtopic, we could put 'grammar', 'syntax', etc... and group new topics there. It'll be very messy if we don't.

Check out my blogif my presence on this board isn't weird enough for you.

Eywayä mokri

I do agree with it.

When you leave for an hour, you just can't read all the new posts that are everywhere.^^ It would be easier to know where to look first when you come back. :)
