I have increased the number of allowed concurrent sessions to the SQL server since it appears we have been maxing out.

Thanks for catching this!

Hey Tìtstewan,  do me a favor and run fix suggestions past me in PM before posting. Typically the actual issue is not visible from a member's viewpoint. Thanks!   ;)   - M.

Actually (today) forum loading much slower than usual. I need to wait more than 20s for load html and next few seconds for some css and graphics. Good of it is that forum working and i don't get any errors.

For compare, ToS forum working nice, so that wasn't a problem in connection US-UE or local problem.
Any errors in spelling, tact or fact are transmission errors.

This server does more than just provide the LN forum. If the sql server is working through something intensive, there can be modest performance slowdowns for a few minutes.

Also, the server is in the US. Routing and loading issues on the Internet can occasionally cause slow responses, especially to international destinations.

In fact, there is probably far more variability in the performance of the internet than there is in the performance of the server. Generally, I find that simply repeating a failed action is enough to deal with the problem.

I saw a weird thing while I was changing my signature:
I get this error:
The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
  • Your signature cannot be greater than 550 characters.

But it's says,
Max 550; characters remaining: 2
So I used only 548 caracters...
What I missed?  :-\ ???
The signatur:

Btw, online character counters say, it has 548, so it missing two characters before it hits the limit.

I tested a bit, and I found the weird thing, it's the "ä" letters which "need" the character space. It seems that the letter needs "two" characters even though it's written only one.

Edit:
549 written ä
*click on "Change profile" button*
-> remaining characters: 275
SMF counts ä double, weird...

Then the server-side software seems to count bytes instead of characters? ä and ì are encoded as two bytes in UTF-8.

Well, I guess it is not such a large issue ;)

Tìtstewan

Then, the system is "cheating". :P If one has only 550 characters for the signature... Same for the 30000 character limit for posts.
The first post of my pronoun guide has 27863 characters, so it's "missing" over 2000 characters. This "cheating" takes more effect, if one use more "ä", "ì" and whatever special sign...

My suspicion is if the system is using UTF-8, it is encoding 2 bytes/character for everything. This has been my experience for other places that use Unicode.  The webboard is most likely counting printed characters to determine length. In the case of your signature, all the characters of your code count as characters.

Compared to most other webboards I am on, 30,000/550 is rather generous.
The Dothraki board is set lower than that, but I have never changed the defaults there.

Just to mention, with "character" I mean every symbol, letter, sign which is possible with UTF-8 and one can write in the message box, that also means bb codes. If character counter says, that I have a maximum that I can use, but "suddenly" it counts the bytes instead characters, there is something weird.
As for the 30k limit, If I remember me correct, once the limit was at 20k (it's the standard on SMF) here too. Usually a very very small group of user hit that limit - mostly fanfiction and guide writers. A 20k message has 19.53kB, increase it to 40k makes 39.06kb. So, in truth, the software doesn't count the "characters", it counts the bytes, which cause confusion if I look at the signature limit, which say (in worst case): remaining characters: 275, but in truth, I filled the 550 Byte limit (the same thing also for posts).

However...
As for my signature, I "fixed" it by removing the dot at the sentence...

Next question, probably that thread was good for it.

I can change timezone (by offset) and time/date format for almost whole forum.
The missing part was shoutbox. Time offset working here but I can't change date to ISO (YYYY-MM-DD) format and set 24h time system. 12h system really annoying me.
