Inalienable possesion twice in a sentence?
« on: July 06, 2014, 12:01:18 pm »
The thread I just made made me think of this as well, for which I don't think I've seen any examples: Knowing that topical case is more or less "required" to appear at the beginning of a sentence, how can one go about saying something like this?:

Your hand touched my skin.
?: Ngari tsyokxìl ’olampi oeri te’langit.
(Nga-ri tsyokx-ìl ’<ol>ampi oe-ri te’lang-it.)

There's probably a better way to say something like this using a completely different sentence structure, but I can't think of one. Ayngeyä (ayngari?) aysäfpìlìri lu peu, ma aysmuk?

I don't feel comfortable with that...
I expected this:

Oeri ta'lengit 'olampi ngeyä tsyokxìl
Your hand touched MY skin.

The question is, what is the point/topic of the sentence?

YOUR hand touched my skin. Ngari tsyokxìl ’olampi oeyä ta’lengit.
vs
Your hand touched MY skin. Oeri ta'lengit 'olampi ngeyä tsyokxìl

I think, this is a good question for K. Pawl.

First of all note, that skin is ta'leng, while *te'lang is not in dictionary (although it looks like plural of txe'lan (heart) ;D

IMHO red sentences are both perfectly correct, and I'd probably prefer the first one. What is topic IMO depends on speaker only - it is his choice what he wants to emphasize.
