Is one of the Na'vi characters really called Tan Jala?! Ummm...how the heck does a Na'vi have a name with a J in it? Gah! Looks like I won't be bothering to get this game...

from the sound of this, I'll probably rent the game, is 1 week enough to complete the game on both stories? it's the holidays so i have plenty of time.

not all movie games are epic fail, the lord of the ring games where quite entertaining and even challenging, and matrix path of neo was also a good game. (by good i mean slightly above average normal games and much better then normal movie games but lord of the rins was approaching being a good regular game)

Played it for about 2 hours. So far it's meh and it really is odd that the models are not accurate. Most of the head tails are super short or non existent, and I think that most of the Avatars have three fingers and a thumb and as far as I knew Avatar's had four and a thumb.

ModernZebra

I rented it on Xbox 360, it was great graphics and the storyline wasnt that bad, though getting armor and the same weapons upgraded every level instead of being able to buy different weps or find them was pretty lame, especially near the end where i just found myself continuously using the mace to crush the RDA skulls in :P

The Na'vi campaign was unbelievebly short, a days work at least, but what got me was the Conquest mode, that was brilliant, being able to see the whole of Pandora and take over and control territories from the RDA was fun though for the Na'vi you start out with Kelutrel and nothing else (i assume thats the same with RDA only starting with Hells Gate), if i was to rate it out of 10 i would give it a 6.5, but only because conquest was fun. the designer F**ked up the flight controls for the Ikran, and you only got to fly the Toruk for 2 seconds, and the Tree of Souls was called the Well of Souls. I think its good the game was based 2 years before the movie, it would have probably became an EPIC fail as stated before if you played as Jake

What i dont understand though was that the character you chose, whoever it was, if you followed Na'vi, you were the Ni'awve Mokri and Toruk Makto.
Your health is low... do you have any potions, or food?

I´ve played the demo and its one of the best games i´ve ever played.
This game is better than crysis, because the grafic  is good and it has a good story.
I lov this game and will own it soon.

The game is absolutely terrible. The graphics for mass effect blew this out of the water for 3rd person action, i think with the graphics the movie had they could have done a hell of a lot better on the main characters animations and facial/body structure than they did. The most noticeable thing while watching animations aside from terrible lip movement was the fingers moved like weird tentacles, the shape and structure for hands was bad and the fingers kept on meshing in to each other.  I really had hoped for a lot more coming from Ubisoft Montreal, they've created some pretty awesome games (just did Assassins Creed 2) and they even had a 2 year start, which is much longer than any movie/game adaptation has had.

While the 3D did make it look prettier, it didn't do much to add to the feel of the game, other than give you something relatively enjoyable to look at while you completed the same type of missons (go to the objective, grab something, run all the way back.)

and i agree that the Ikran controls were very bad, the hovering animations were terrible and the thing i noticed most was there are 2 buttons you dont use AT ALL while flying, and they didn't even think for a second to add in something to allow you to shoot off the top of your mount. So while you are flying the Ikran or riding the Pa'li, you are completely defenseless. the game was incredibly linear, the environment was completely closed off (unless flying your Ikran, then you are generally only bound by the outside limit of the terrain, but you can't land anywhere you can't walk) but lots of the plants exploded when they were shot, and i was able to shoot branches off of trees and brush. The game is completely green, they didn't give you any missions where you were out at night in the colourful environments seen in the movie, but a couple of the online multiplayer maps do give you a chance to see the plants glowing.

I got the game for sale, $30 CAN, and i wouldn't have paid a penny more had i known how this game would turn out. I do NOT recommend you buy this to expand your Avatar experience.

Yeah, based on what I've read here and elsewhere, I'm going to wait on getting this. I had high hopes at first because I had heard somewhere that the game got 4 years of development (as opposed to the 1.5 years for the average movie game), but after looking at the trailers and all... meh. I wish it was more open-ended, not "go here, shoot/stab this" because a game of exploring pandora and making your own choices would be awesome. I think the problem is not that they don't have the right technology to produce this kind of game, it's just that they aren't willing to put as much effort into it as they should (and easily could) have.

It would have been nice to have a mass effect style avatar game, letting you choose the outcome and make your own decisions. the game is especially poor for 4 years of dev.

Atanä mungeyu

yeah the game is quite good, except for a few things,
1:the storyline, you almost must have seen the movie to understand it...
2:the weapons of the na'vi,the have a staff and dual swords...,but no dagger...
3:the art,its really good, but different from the movie,Iknimaya(the ikran nest) is completely different.
and their hair(whatever you want to call it) is far too short...
great game though!

That would have been amazing. Someone get Bioware to make it.

Or let Rockstar make a Grand Theft Auto kind of game out of it :o That would rock!

or with all the equipment for the RDA side..
it would be awesome, but they should do the na'vi art better(with the tsaheylu this time)

Yeah indeed! It sucks that they left the tsahaylu out! It just isn't correct according to the books and the movie!

I rented the Wii version, since it's the only up-to-date system I have.  The only thing I've liked so far is that it let me use the balance board to fly the ikran.  That was fun.  But the storyline is not at all what you're talking about.  You're just this random (so far) Na'vi who goes around smashing and shooting RDA people (just swing the wiimote around, or point and press a button to shoot an arrow, and it doesn't register your movements terribly well without the motion plus thing).  And I haven't seen any Na'vi language yet except for the word that flickers up for the briefest moment when you're trying to go somewhere that the game won't let you.  I'm glad I only rented it.

Well, even though I said I was going to wait, I ended up involuntarily receiving the game for my birthday a few days ago. I was right not to want to get it.
I have the PC version, and the best graphics you're going to see are in the beginning cutscene. It's a very well done cutscene, with nice rendering and an impressive segment with a video conference with Dr. Augustine in which it's hard to tell that she's not real.
From there, it gets progressively worse. I'm not sure how much of this is computer-specific, but at long distances, the RDA enemies were a bunch of floating, unrendered polygons. The Na'vi looked like lumpy humanoid wax figures wrapped in blue saran wrap with a slit for a mouth. The character rendering was embarrassing, and a lot of the Na'vi were just too bulky. If I shot an enemy with an arrow, they would consistently die before the arrow actually hit them because the hit registered before the object did (which I guess could be a complement of my shooting skills) and the storyline is just "go here, shoot this, blow up that and then I'll trust you and maybe help you out". It was embarrassing how little effort seemed to have put into a lot of the aspects in the game.

And, like almost everyone else has said, riding an ikran was like steering a brick.

You get to ride Toruk, in the last 30 sec of the game, however it feels tacked on, and he handles 100% better than the ikran. I found that trying to contol how the ikran fly was much like steering a brick using only hopes and dreams. The best solution I came up with was to point the ikran (which by this stage I was calling "skxawng tskxe", lucky for me the other guys in the loungeroom didn't get it) to where you want to go and press forward, stop and then turn again.

ahahahahaha, irayo ta'em tskxe. I actually started laughing when I read that. Such an inspiring comment :D

Whatcha think?

*Edit: I was thinking, it should be leskxawnga tskxe. Oops.

Heh. Be better if you could photoshop Na'vi hands into the picture.
