Does anyone own the game? What are your thoughts so far? 3D games: the future of the gaming industry? Discuss!

I haven't played the game yet.  The trailers for it online didn't really impress me at all.  It seemed like it strayed from the movie too much.  The weapons they showed I never saw in the movie and some of the things they showed the Na'vi character doing didn't match up either (Invisibility).  Again I have not played the game, this is all taken from a trailer I saw on youtube.

I think the game runs close to 30 - 40 US dollars, though I am not sure which. People have been giving it some bad reviews, but others liked it. I was not aware it was in 3D.

Try $60 US (XBOX 360 Version).  I don't think its 3D like the movie in 3D.  We don't even have 3D TVs out yet...

Oh yes, I forgot about the high prices nowadays. I guess the one for PC's and Macs are about $50 US?

Here's my opinion on movie games on general (and it's kind of a quote from Bleep-Bloop): However well the movie did, the game is inversely proportionate to the awesomeness of the movie.

So, basically, if the movie was EPIC, then the game is epic FAIL, and vice versa.

With that said, I refuse to go buy and play the game, because it might ruin my experience that I had seeing the movie.

I'm sorry I could not help further than that.  I'm sure that some people here will still enjoy the game a lot, whether or not they see the movie.

I would only get the game for the Na'vi language, maybe we can get lucky and someone will post all the Na'vi audio and/or transcripts from it...

I haven't actually watched the trailers as I have no plans to get it.  But on invisibility, often games use that as an easy way to express sneaking around.  Remember, the Na'vi can move around quietly, if you recall Neytiri scolded Jake for making so much noise when they first met.

The game is rubbish on some things, the Na'vi are capable of invisibility, humans have some ridiculous tech that was never in the movie. And other stupid things, in my opinion they should had done an open ended game kind of sandbox, that you can take a side either humans or Na'vi then have you character grow. But even though they have the options to play both roles its not as good as the movie at all.

Have played the Na'vi storyline through.

Usual movie / game spin off, although this is much better in terms of linking the movie in, it misses huge parts. and once you finish the pretty... boring storyline the ending is pretty much "wtf" and you cant talk with any of the characters or anything, its just a limited world with not much to do in it with pretty rediculous abilities.

I haven't been able to bring myself to do the human storyline for the thought of hurting the Na'vi  :(

I will try rip out the audio later.

Supposedly, Cameron worked closely on this project as well. I'm surprised they put in so many things that just... shouldn't be in there. :-P

Considering their outward biology, and and the emphasis on the hunt, the strength of females in the hunting culture.

I think that they evolved from predatory feline variants from a similar ancestor to the Palulukan and the Prolemuris (slowly fusing fore paws) but are significant mutation on the fusing of the forepaws considering that many of the other land animals are sextipedal and the Na'vi are quadrapedal in inheritance.

I believe, they Basically came from stalker cats like lions and other large Felines on earth.

Meh, I barely accept invisibility represented as stealth in MMOs, much less in action oriented games.

Ta'em tskxe

I've played the PS3 all the way through.

Initial thoughts: It looks pretty good, the character animations are well done and you aren't completely invulnerable near the end.

From a Na'vi student's perspective however, it's not that great. Tsaheylu is non-existant, the language is mostly english and characters seem to want to throw in a Na'vi word here and there to make it official.

As a gamer, the plot is good in the beginning, you get a great feel for Pandora and the atmosphere is pretty good. However after you make your choice, the game is really only riveting for maybe an hour afterwards. The same weapons getting upgraded to just have a new model and better stats means that you generally use the same strategies all the way through. However I will say that, for me, it never got old putting a Na'vi broomstick through an RDA soldier's head. Play time for one side is less than 12 hours.
Oh and another point, the AI sucked. If you stand behind a box after waking up the entire RDA camp, you can happily kill the soldiers one by one as they walk around the corner.

You get to ride Toruk, in the last 30 sec of the game, however it feels tacked on, and he handles 100% better than the ikran. I found that trying to contol how the ikran fly was much like steering a brick using only hopes and dreams. The best solution I came up with was to point the ikran (which by this stage I was calling "skxawng tskxe", lucky for me the other guys in the loungeroom didn't get it) to where you want to go and press forward, stop and then turn again.

Bottom line, feels great for the first bit of it, there's a few humourous lines in it, but not much Na'vi. It's enjoyable if you have time to kill during your holidays (I just liked shooting the RDA :P ).

Ta'em tskxe - the 'rock from above'.
This describes my ikran flying style, it may also contain greater meaning.
Read into it what you will..

Now that the game is certain not to ruin the movie for me. I will play it.

It was to me, a run of the mill 3rd person action shooter. I played through both campaigns whilst renting it, but honestly it's a very average, nondescript game. The only exciting part was the "Pandorapedia" which had information about Pandora, however after purchasing the Pandora field guide, I realised it was just that book in the game to add a little more content.

Also the book? Full of errors. Typos, spelling mistakes, you name it.

shiaru

I got a friend that has the book, he says there is a spelling mistake every 5 pages. Is it that bad ?

It has been frequently said that this book was excessively rushed.

It might be deliberate... Real people make those mistakes.  When what they are more concerned with is gathering as much as they can, they don't concern themselves with perfecting the presentation until later.
