The perfect Avatar game?
« on: April 03, 2010, 09:55:21 am »
Anyone ever play Just Cause 2? Its basically a sandbox game. The map is about 400 or so square miles and completely open meaning there's no loading between areas etc. Oe was thinking about this for an Avatar game. That would make a perfect game for Avatar. Huge open map of The Pandora jungle even with cycling night/day. You would do things that would be done in clan life like learning to hunt, climbing Iknimaya and getting your ikran which would have GOOD controls  :D, etc.
Good idea?

I've played the demo and the idea is good! But who i going to mod a 400 square mile map? And it should be kinda like WoW, an open RP but then for all platforms!

Well I mean make a new game with that concept. Modding JC2 would be hell :D
But yeah, it would probably have to be an RPG

The ideal Avatar game indeed should have a sandbox feel to it. I also felt that there should be decision-making implemented like they do with Dragon Age where whatever you do affects you in the game later.

Plus I mentioned in one of my previous threads that it would be better for the user to actually customize their ideal Na'vi , both face and body. If the game involves you playing as a human whose controlling the Avatar, then maybe customize your human character and let it automatically map out the features onto your Na'vi.

We definetly need MUCH MORE RP decissions and elements in general if we want another (this time) more successfull Avatar game. I think the concept of character growth is nice. Though it should be more bound to the concept of learning. It's an Avatar that learns how to act and behave like a NA'Vi after all.

It doesn't need to be a big ass map. If it's well designed a small map may be sufficient. Well not too small. You shouldn't smash into invisible walls when enjoying a sunday morning rideout on Toruk's back *hint hint*

Umm, I had a game maker a while back, it was a free (canadian (not to discriminate, because they are awesome (They made Audacity, 001, etc. and all for FREE!))).  it is 001 game maker.  you can get upgrades and stuff to it, but i was thinking, maybe we could use that for a game.  I am willing to help out with it (Not that I am awesome at it, but I have some skill with it).  just google Engine 001 game maker to get the link. Ideas, thoughts, etc?

Sorry for the double post, but I think i will actually start to work on this.  I have a little free time, so I will do that and put up some pics when it is ready.

For now I am collecting resouces - weapons, trees, tiles, etc.  We can do two types of bows though- there is a recurve and a regular.  Opinions?

But if it is a sand box like GTA, it can't be like DAO, because this last is like a story, RPG, not sand box. I would be great that you could have your partner, and have childs, like in the Sims. All in one. Okey, that is... improbable and hard as hell, but... dreaming is cheap  ;D

I suppose I f one of us had enough skill, it could be done on the Unreal Engine seen as it can be had for free. But this would certainly have to be a team effort. Like one person for textures, one animator, one level designer.........

i can design good levels for doom so i should be able to make some up for unreal
(if i find it i'll put up my prison break mission... its got an epic start... your in a locked room... with a air duct in one of the corners which you sneak through)
(NOTE: it only works if you have zdoom or another one like that where you can crouch)
Only mostly AWOL.

I'm quite an avid coder. I once wrote an entire terrain engine, completely with LOD and stuff on a single day. I can post the executables if people want me to, to take a look. It reads Terragen files.
