A Na'Vi translation for DVD

So... completly random thought... but..

in the movie Galaxy Quest, under the language section, you can choose to watchthe entire movie in Engish, French, and thermian.

So... wouldnt it be just be rediculously cool (and educational) to get Mr. Cameron to get Dr. Frommer to translate the entire script, and then have the acters reread the lines in Na'Vi?

I think that would be just so amazing to watch the movie in Na'vi.

Any thoughts?

Annd... any ideas on how to turn Cameron onto this idea and get him to do this?

The would probably work. There have been movies before where they translated it into a language that is spoken randomly through out the movie.

How fantastic would it be to hear Quaritch speak Na'vi?

i could imagine how weird it would be when Jake is meant to be learning Na'vi yet the translation is making it look like he understands it

Even if they made this a stand alone that you have to pay extra for i would be in line to buy it.

It would definitely be feasible to have Na'vi subtitles throughout the movie.

The problem with the Galaxy Quest comparison is they didn't try to make that an actual language, as far as I know. So they could get away with throwing it in as a cheap extra.

Actually translating everything and getting actors to read lines in Na'vi would be a much more serious undertaking though.

So as cool as it would be, I don't expect it to happen. MAYBE subtitling the whole thing in Na'vi, but again I don't expect that to happen either.

but if we did say something, and they did do it... it would be amazing.

I don't think there would be a audio part. but it would be cool. there could be subtitles though.

well.... the navi have an intoxicating drink... (if you have read the 2007 script)... they also have "butt"... however they dont have kick... "shot"... well doesnt mean like I shot an arrow... so... perhaps something like ke txan? (a little/not much)

(i hope i said that right... although i prolly didnt.)

It'll be a few years before we have a language complex enough to translate everything on our own. But if we beg enough perhaps they'll make Frommer do it. It'll be a great way for him to branch out the vocabulary. It'll still probably be a few years before we get it. It could be the uber special edition!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it too! In fact, I posted a nearly identical thread a few weeks back, except more broadly focused on what features people want to see on the DVD. Na'vi language and/or subtitles was my list of features.

Maybe Frommer will end up doing it on his own time. If I was making up a language I'd figure one of the best ways to expand on it would be to translate something into it, so why not something it's based in?

Yeah that would be interesting and a fantastic learning resource as i said earlier

i guess it would over complicate them making the DVD maybe

as in they would have to release it later because frommer would have to go over the script with a fine toothed comb and make up some new words and grammar etc.
